• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Crewe for me as well, 3-0, November 1969. Ended up a promotion season.

Took my son to his first game at Newcastle in 2014. 2-1 away win, Bony with a last minute penalty,

That’s the way to catch a supporter for life!

Port Vale 1967. 2-1.
On the old East terrace, railway sleepers !

Could hear the roar from the North Bank. Hooked. Over there for the rest of my time at the Vetch

Side note - my first game, plus first encounter with football hooligans. Port Vale lot there, nasty bunch. An eye opener but didn't put me off.

Not long after, the Arsenal 33,000 cup game in 68. Sardines ain't in it !!!
I think ex swan flickr williams played in that game.

Beats me how all you people can remember your fist game. I haven't got a clue other than it would have been around 1980ish.

Swansea City 2-1 Walsall. Jan 1986. One week before a benefit game v Man Utd.
From then on was hooked.
As a side note, as I’m getting older, missing the Vetch even more!

Swans vs Bradford City in the old 4th division under Harry. We were 1-0 up and the match was abandoned either for floodlight failure air weather can’t remember but it was both madly exciting and an anticlimax rolled into one. I know Bradford were near the top and we were close to the promotion places. Anyone else remember this one? It was either 76/77 or 77/78 season

Yes Jan 1977 Swans vs Bradford abandoned into the second half due to torrential rain .

The game against Wealdstone in the FA Cup i remember was off because of a waterlogged pitch as we were coming into Swansea .

The Vetch was half mud, half sand from December until the end of the season in some years.

Hull City. 1985. Lost 2-0. Dean Saunders was playing. Sat in the main stand for the only time I ever did. John Bond was the manager. I was 9.

Can you remember?.. when and against who?
Newport County rings a bell, went with a couple of lads I was in Dynevor school with, might have been a game of so before that though, but that county game must have been 1976

That game actually started and we were 2-1 up early in the second half, when the ref abandoned that.
We won the rearranged match 4-1

Thanks for the info ,
Did Stuart Pierce play in the first game ,
My brother and mate drove up to Wrexham for a Welsh Cup game which never kicked off due to a waterlogged pitch .

PNE in FA cup, Jan 1961, stood under the double-decker with my Dad. Johnny King was in goal (a big lad, but surprisingly agile), the late great Harry at LB. Graham ‘flicka’ Williams was my hero! We won 2-1 and remained unbeaten in the league for the rest of the season, finished 6th I think. Hooked for life!

Same here.

I wasn't all that interested in football until Italia '90 but I'd been to games when I was a nipper, at least as far back as when the old double decker stand was still there because my dad used to do the half time penalty shootouts when local league teams took part. Got no idea who the opposition would have been but I can remember the double decker.

The game I remember as being my "first", even though it wasn't, was us beating Preston 3-1 on 16th April 1991. Think Dai Penney scored a beaut from outside the box. Joey Beauchamp played for us as well if memory serves.

Swansea 2-2 Aldershot Town start of season 68/69

During the game my dad said Liverpool play in the same colors as Aldershot. Because of the crowd noise I misheard him.
For the next 4 years I thought my first game was Liverpool until one day I realized it was Aldershot when I was going through my match day program collection
