• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

March 1978.
Tosh's first game as our player/manager V Watford and a 3-3 draw.
Old man was a seasie holder on the Kop at Anfield and wanted to see how Tosh performed as a manager.
Kept going after that with school mates.
Now 61 and taking grandbabies to the Morfa. Getting old!!
Daughter and son were dragged up on the N.B.

Thanks for the info ,
Did Stuart Pierce play in the first game ,
My brother and mate drove up to Wrexham for a Welsh Cup game which never kicked off due to a waterlogged pitch .
Pearce had left Wealdstone a few years earlier. Not sure if they had any household names at the time, maybe Andy Wallace who went on to play for Yeovil later on.

For old times sake, for about the 9th time this topic has arisen on various iterations. Swansea 0 Exeter 3 is the first game i can remember but not the first game I was taken to. Alan Beer played fro Exeter( he was a Swansea boy) and he tore us to shreds. First game I went to was Boxing day 1975. A thumping win against our soon to be rivals.(Watford) I wish I could remember it. I went to all home games on this little snip.My dad couldnt belive how much I seemed to love the whole thing. The last fixture on the list here is a notable draw we got against the runaway champions that year managed by Graham Taylor no less. (player manager initially ) Its true to say I was hooked from the start.
A lot of Friday night games here. (Possibly due to the Rugby. Wales were a juggernaught then and was 5 nations season) Something special about the Swans on a Friday night. Hardly ever happens now.

Alan Beer played in the Swansea Senior league for Unit Superheaters (United) and I saw him play many times at Maesteg Park in St Thomas. Another player of the same era was Brian Grey who played in the same league before both were picked up by the Swans. There were some excellent players in the local leagues around that time.

26th August 2000

Swans 0 - 2 Colchester.

I was six, in the North Bank with my dad. He sat me up on the sand by the pitch, which I dropped my burger in.

Lua Lua scored twice and was sold to Newcastle within the week

He scored a cracker in that game, if my memory serves me right, a real stunning individual goal i think.

Here’s something from way back. Anyone remember and able to continue this …

His name is Curly Issacs and he’s the leader of the band
Without a doubt, we shout it out
The best team in the land
For he’s the one …

Not sure of the opposition but one of the early home games in the 1959-60 season was my first Swans match.

04/01/1964 FA Cup 3rd Round Swansea Town 4 Barrow AFC 1. I was a month away from 10th birthday

December 1960 was my first game 3 3 vs Sunderland the thing i can still see in my minds eye was or Brayley Reynolds and the huge ( to me at the time ) George Hurly battle, thats what started my real intrest in our club

Swansea 5-0 Rotherham 1st January 1991

DId we play Rotherham again next game in the FA Cup drew 0 - 0 to lose the replay .
2 different perfomances .

The carnage that was the Welsh Cup Final back in 82 when Swansea played Cardiff.

Swans v Liverpool. 2 January 1982, an FA Cup third round tie. My mother’s friend took me, I was 10. We stood on the East Bank and I could hardly see a thing. We got battered but i was hooked. I wasn’t allowed to go again until November 1985 when I was allowed to go on my own as a 13 year old. I got the 36 bus from Long View Road into town to see us beat Leyton Wingate 2-0 in the first round of the FA Cup.

Swansea City v Darlington. 27 Aug 1974 at Vetch, a 1-0 hone win in Div 4. We played Darlington away only 10 days earlier in the League opener, losing 3-2.
