Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

I agree but they weren't the right fit for what we needed at the time. Just found out Oko-Flex is playing in Switzerland now

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

I get the impression the loans have been looked at with the attitude of "well it's better than nothing" and there's the gamble that they might turn out decent. We've had a lot more misses than hits over the last few years though

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

For a club who are always pleading poverty, we wasted about £4.5m on Yates, Kukharevych and Tjoe-A-On last summer. We've had some dreadful loans over the last few years as well; Humphreys, Sagoe Jr, Stevens, Sorinola, Oko-Flex, Rhys Williams and Fin Burns all spring to mind

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

We also seem to have signed a few players who have then left 6/12 months later without having played. Kukharevych being the latest but there's also Ogbeta, Pedersen, Tjoe-A-On still hasn't made his competitive debut, I'm probably forgetting some as well

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

To be fair, it's hardly a controversial point that the owners aren't investing enough to take the club forwards

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

That's what I meant sorry, they've invested the bare minimum required. Whether that's through choice or limitations of available funds I don't know but I just don't see what's in it for them at the moment to just keep throwing their money away for the club to go backwards

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

We hope it's been positive but we won't know for sure until we see how the new signings perform over the next few months. It's very much unknown at the moment. We're massively down on numbers from last season so the squad depth is definitely going to be an issue over the course of the season

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

The crazy thing for me is that the owners either can't afford to or just refuse to invest in the club. They've relied on stripping the squad of any valuable assets in order to pay the bills but it's resulted in us having a squad with nobody worth more than a couple of million. It's not...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

The problem is there's no guarantee that any new owners would do a better job than the ones we have now. Plus it's a long way back if we do end up going down

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

I dread to think what the squad will look like in 2-3 years time

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

Good point. The Grimes/Fulton axis of doom is baffling because you end up with Grimes standing next to the CBs and Fulton standing just off the striker, leaving a big hole in midfield where we invariably get overrun. Yet so many managers have persisted with it, just doesn't make any sense

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

I'd say the lack of intensity stems from the example the captain sets. He's content to stroll around, taking more touches than necessary and making slow 5 yard passes so others follow the same way

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

And Martin is the ultimate example of how to use PR

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

Exactly, I think Duff's abrasive character didn't do him any favours but he's unfairly criticised as a manager by the same people who praise Williams. I really haven't seen much difference in our style of play under Martin, Duff and now Williams. They're pulling the wool over people's eyes by...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Gillingham FC | The Carabao Cup

Understandably so in my opinion, I haven't been particularly impressed by Williams so far and I think he's getting an easy ride purely because he's not Michael Duff. Their records are actually very similar: Duff: P21 W6 D6 L9 Williams: P23 W8 D4 L11

    Glory Nzingo

He must be injured, looks like he hasn't played since February

    Glory Nzingo

He always seems to put the effort in, if nothing else. With only Vipotnik as an out and out striker there should be plenty of opportunities for him this season

    Ryan Lowe leaves Preston ...

True, and people's definition of "success" isn't as realistic as it should be. Not every club can win a trophy or get promoted, they all have their natural level

    Ryan Lowe leaves Preston ...

It does seem to have been reported as "mutual consent" so I wouldn't be surprised. I wonder how many club's managers actually have the full support of the majority of their fanbase though, not very many I'd guess
