This time in 2022 (Matchday 29) under Martin we were 16th in the Championship with 35 points and GD of -10. Not much different from where we are now. In Martin's second season, we were 12th with 39 points and a GD of 0 after matchday 29. So it's unarguable that statistically speaking, William's...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Norwich 5 Swansea 1 | The EFL Championship

That was uncannily accurate (apart from the damage limitation bit). Carrow Road used to be one of my favourite places to go because (a) we usually won and (b) the home support were quite classy - magnanimous in victory and respectful in defeat. Neither is true any more. The 300 Spartans Swans...

    The Swansea Way

Newly promoted clubs always have the potential to buck the trend for a season or even for a few seasons with the right combination of hard work, inspired recruitment and luck. Sometimes they might even win the league during that time. But without the financial resources to compete with the big...

    The Swansea Way

I believe the term ‘The Swansea Way’ was coined by Andrew Gwilym after we began our decline, as a way of describing what we had supposedly abandoned (https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/slow-painful-death-the-swansea-14069130.amp). If not, then it was certainly popularised...

What type of manager do we want?

"Generals always prepare to fight the last war, especially if they won it". (Georges Clemenceau) If we want to enjoy similar success to what we saw under Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup, there's no point trying to recreate the exact same circumstances, we need to understand the core principles...

    Anyone heard from Luke?

I haven’t, although I hear it is very good - thanks for the recommendation. This week I am mostly enjoying Clausthaler Dry Hopped, which is a superb 0.5. I also have some Days’ in the fridge, which I also rate (although after the Clausthaler they are starting to taste a bit thin).

    Death Row, Your last meal...

Mine would be Fergus Henderson’s roast marrow bones.

    Anyone heard from Luke?

I’ve booked tickets for Norwich next weekend. And I’m doing Dry January. At least the Ghost Ship 0.4 is pretty decent.

    Williams out

Absolutely, I would say that’s the biggest problem. I do think Key and Tymon have talent, but neither of them are natural FBs. Also doesn’t help that Grimes spends so much time in the sweeper position but doesn’t actually sweep when it is needed.

A 3-0 thumping that perfectly encapsulated all our current problems. We can only score by sliding the ball to Cullen’s feet; Ronald rarely gets as far as attempting a ball into the box and Eom is marked out of the game, so Cullen-friendly balls are now vanishingly rare. Fairly easy to work out...

Relics is one of my favourite compilation albums. Listening to it as a teenager in the late 70s felt like discovering a lost world, along with the Velvets and MC5, even though a lot of that music was barely 10 years old at the time!

    January Transfer Rumours

"...neither mastery nor satisfaction can be found in the playing of any game without giving some attention to the relatively neglected skills of the inner game. This is the game that takes place in the mind of the player, and it is played against such obstacles as lapses in concentration...

    MP-H goal celebration

While I don’t want to minimise the effort that many supporters put in to travel huge distances and part with money many of them can ill afford to back their team, for the players it is literally their career and future earning potential at stake every time they step on the pitch. One bad tackle...

    Eom

This thread is a wind-up, yes? Eom is clearly one of our better players. Cuts through defences at precisely the point where Ronald stops dead and turns around to see who he can pass back to. Eom is still a work in progress but we missed him badly when he was out. Would love a couple more players...

Excellent post, couldn't agree more! The manager's job isn't to just hand round the oranges and throw the odd football boot at half time. Just a few observations from me: - QPR came out with an extremely high press second half and I thought 'here we go again'. But either they couldn't keep it...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City 3 QPR 0 | The EFL Championship

Well to be fair two of the last three seasons we had ‘Russ’ in charge, running around eliminating anyone who looked like they might be a winger and pairing Grimes and Fulton in MF. Williams and his squad are a work in progress but I am having more fun watching them, flaws and all, then I did...

Tickets on sale for Oxford away fixture

This morning I got an email from the club saying they are now on general sale. But there's no link on the official site. Are they all gone already?
