They were a good firm but I was teetering on the brink by then. I dont think I stayed year. The thing about construction is you can always find another job. I burned so many bridges.

I ran projects. Some companies I worked for were small companies. I would be site manager/engineer/dumper driver/cleaner. I also worked for enormous companies [Laings on T5(Heathrow)) Ended up self employed.

Thank you for the insight. Its these kind of things that I am trying appraise. Im wondering if I am wasting my time. I know age a protected characteristic but is there unconcious bias? Thats very helpful. Thank you. I guess I need to aim for 6/7s so that if I go blank in one answer Im still over the bar. I always said I would give it three goes. Next time is the third. Roll on next year.

I am still an alcoholic and I always will be. I have however recovered from a hopeless state of mind and have remained sober one day at a time.

I understand all of this. As I have said there is a feedback session where they tell me what needs to improve. I dont really need someone point out that I need to score higher than a 3 on a pass mark of 4. I had worked that out. Im starting to sound like an a$$hole now. I dont know what I...

There are a group of people who tried two/three times and gave up. They are very knowledgeable capable people but they have been defeated by the system. The first time I applied I was training a new starter who had literally just finished induction. They got progression and I didnt. It is so wierd.

Because its a shitty toxic environment and I lost the will to live doing it. Its no coincidence I ended up as a chronic alcoholic.(16 years sober- coincidently, 16 years since I left construction)

As I said twice now, Im not looking for pointers on interview technique. I have already posted that Im taking onboard feedback.I was asking for insight from people who had "played the game"

I dont think thats the case AT ALL. For a start they progressed 15 people they knew nothing about other than what they learned in the interview. Some of the people had only been in the organisation for weeks. There no way they could have been preferred.

Yes I did it(feedback discussion) last time as well. I got two 5s two 4s and two 3s. Not far away at all. I used star. Im not looking for pointers in that direction. Im just wondering why its such a strange process.
