Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City 1 Derby County 0 | Att: 16,501 | The EFL Championship

Unless @swan65split is correct and he’s playing rope-a-dope. Let’s hope so because otherwise the lack of changes at half time is deeply worrying.

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City 3 Blackburn Rovers 0 | Att: 13,788 | The EFL Championship

My great granddad moved to Swansea from Sunderland as a small child. Family of shipwrights. He went on to be a Cape Horner many times over.

Who Goes in The Summer? Who Stays? Players.

I’d keep Naughton. Particularly if we are going to lose Darling. His footballing knowledge will be invaluable in the Championship (if we stay up) and outweighs his loss of pace. Not so sure about Key and Tymon if, as you say, we keep our back four. They are not FBs. Or at least not very good ones.

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Bristol City 0 Swansea City 1 | Att: 21,554 | The EFL Championship

I thought we improved steadily as the game went on, at least until Naughton was subbed, which is no mean feat when O’Brien was making his debut and getting to know his teammates. We continued to defend well (or at least not as badly as we have been - some of our clearances were needlessly rushed...

Well to be fair to them O’Brien is brand new and Delcroix is still bedding in. Ronald and Cullen are bizarre choices for their positions in this formation but on the whole it’s beginning to look like an improvement on recent performances.

    One positive from today's game

Of course, for the past 40-odd years, when 99 times out of a 100 we have been hanging on to a win or a draw by the skin of our teeth and knowing what's happening in the dying minutes is critical, they didn't bother offering that service. Now we are allowing opponents to score for fun against us...

    One positive from today's game

The BBC's live text service told us how many minutes of extra time the Fourth Official had flagged. Not seen that before. Usually they go off and have a cup of tea at about 87 minutes. Silver linings and all that.

    Is Matt Grimes a legend??

Not a legend. Not even close. I've wanted to see him go for at least a few seasons now. I actually felt bad about that for a while because there was an article saying how much he loves Swansea and the club, he's put down roots in SW Wales, his family are here etc etc so I thought 'oh well maybe...

    Genuinely Excited

If the goat has escaped already, it’s not going to carry the can for whatever happens is it? Mind you, that’s pretty damning evidence of its guilt if it has legged it.

Captain Grimes on his way to Coventry City?

He’ll get as far as Bridgend before turning round.

    Coleman out

We ended 2024 with decent performances. So far this calendar year we've had three abject capitulations, one unlucky defeat and a draw against a top tier club, during a period when our first choice CBs have been disrupted by injury, suspension, and introducing a new player who barely had time to...

    I didn’t watch

And yet we had the tightest defence in the division for the first part of the season. I don't buy this 'the players are sabotaging him' line. You only had to see the passion on Liam's face yesterday when he celebrated his goal to know that they care deeply about winning. (Although there was...

    Williams out

This time in 2022 (Matchday 29) under Martin we were 16th in the Championship with 35 points and GD of -10. Not much different from where we are now. In Martin's second season, we were 12th with 39 points and a GD of 0 after matchday 29. So it's unarguable that statistically speaking, William's...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Norwich 5 Swansea 1 | The EFL Championship

That was uncannily accurate (apart from the damage limitation bit). Carrow Road used to be one of my favourite places to go because (a) we usually won and (b) the home support were quite classy - magnanimous in victory and respectful in defeat. Neither is true any more. The 300 Spartans Swans...

    The Swansea Way

Newly promoted clubs always have the potential to buck the trend for a season or even for a few seasons with the right combination of hard work, inspired recruitment and luck. Sometimes they might even win the league during that time. But without the financial resources to compete with the big...

    The Swansea Way

I believe the term ‘The Swansea Way’ was coined by Andrew Gwilym after we began our decline, as a way of describing what we had supposedly abandoned (https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/slow-painful-death-the-swansea-14069130.amp). If not, then it was certainly popularised...

What type of manager do we want?

"Generals always prepare to fight the last war, especially if they won it". (Georges Clemenceau) If we want to enjoy similar success to what we saw under Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup, there's no point trying to recreate the exact same circumstances, we need to understand the core principles...
