Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Norwich City | The EFL Championship

I would like to see Vipotnik Eom Bianchini Ronald Grimes Franco Tymon Abbey Darling Key Vigoroux I expect to see Eom Cullen Ronald Abdullai Grimes Franco Tymon Cabango Darling Key Vigoroux Or even Eom Cullen Ronald Fulton Grimes Franco Tymon Cabango Darling Key Vigoroux (Unless Cullen is...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | WBA v Swansea City | The EFL Championship

I was thinking along similar lines today. I don’t think Tymon and Key are WB material but we might be better off with Ronald and Eom as inside forwards rather than as wingers. And I’d play Naughton, Pedersen and Darling as the three CBs. Which would mean dropping Grimes and Cabango which...

    Summer 2024 Transfer Rumours

I don't agree that the back-ups are largely poor. Don't know McLoughlin but it's unlikely he'll be needed. Naughton is one of our best players and can also cover CB. Abbey is a class player thrown in at the deep end midweek without time to learn anyone else's names let alone how they play...

    Grimes

Or worse, to a yard behind where the receiving player rather than two yards in front so they have negative momentum when they get the ball. The reason I’m so frustrated with Grimes is that in one game in 10 he actually does what we want him to do. The potential is there.

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

It’s true that we are ponderous when we play Grimes and Fulton together. I genuinely hoped we would not see that happen again and that Williams had learned his lesson. I understand him wanting to rest Franco, but he could easily have played Allen or even Abdullai in CM alongside either Grimes or...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

As As well as benching Grimes and Fulton for the next few games, I’d make Darling captain. He displays more leadership on the pitch than any other player, Grimes included. Oli Cooper would be my second choice (can he play CM?).

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

Let’s get some perspective. Tonight Williams fielded a team of relative strangers and the Chuckle Brothers in the midfield engine room. Zan was starved of service. Williams made changes way, way too late. Abbey is a class act who was thrown in the deep end tonight before he has had a chance to...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

Yes, but that was the Jay Fulton who gave 110% (and cost us the play-off finals as a result of his enthusiasm), not the one who taps the ball straight back to whoever gave it to him with no movement at all 90% of the time. (Which is particularly frustrating given what he can do the other 10%.)

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

Precisely! Laudrup moved us on from that style of play at the same time as Spanish football evolved, and that was the best period in our history. Remember when he played one winger, and then three? Really inventive stuff. Martin was cos-playing the glory days of Barca’s tiki-taka and I worry...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

Annoying though those ‘we need to’s’ are, at least he’s dropped Martin’s intensity/domination nonsense. The man never knowingly accepted responsibility for anything. Even a defeat was a victory as long as we had the lion’s share of possession. My son has a theory that Grimes and Fulton are on...

Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers | The Carabao Cup

Duff was the same, though. Are Grimes and Fulton ignoring what they are told (and if so why do they both get picked) or doing precisely what they were told to do?

I’d bench them both for the next three games and play some combination of Allen with Franco or Abdullai in midfield.

I like Luke. Seems like an honest, down to earth guy. He understands the club, its history and the supporters. And I like what he has to say about how he wants his team to play. I want him to succeed. I am happy to give him the benefit of the doubt for Sunday. I truly believe his substitutions...

Can’t agree with you, sorry. When Julian Alsop headed the ball he would literally look around in surprise to see where it had gone.

    Summer 2024 Transfer Rumours

I don’t agree about the players we already have being peas from the same pod. Sure, Grimes and Fulton are now playing like clones of each other, but at their best Grimes is a creative playmaker and Fulton is a first-class DM. With the right coaching, they could be assets to the squad. And Allen...

Would it be easier for you to understand if I use the synonym "individual" instead of "single" in that sentence? As opposed to general negatives, of which there were a great many.

Actually we did play some players out of position, but when we did it was out of necessity I feel, rather than persisting with a formation we didn’t have the players for. I would hope the parent clubs of any loanees who suffered as a result would understand that.
