I really don’t think we need a recruitment person at and around the training ground!

My guess will be they impose a £1m threshold. It still won’t catch as anywhere near as many people as a percentage that £2m does in London.

    Budget November 2025

To be fair, I think a lot of the disagreement has arisen due to a misunderstanding of the amounts pensioners can have within ISAs rather than a genuine disagreement about whether people should or shouldn’t pay tax on interest at different levels of wealth.

It will be interesting to see what the Welsh government do about mansion tax. Do they follow suit? Do they impose different limits? It will kill them to come up with a solution that doesn’t, for once, hurt people in Cardiff more than the rest of Wales…

I understand. And it’s great that you will be able to help them out. But why should your 32 year old be paying more than he already does in tax so that someone who is 70 with a house fully paid for and a final salary pension scheme plus a couple of hundred grand in savings pays no tax and goes...

Seriously, get yourself to see the bank or building society and talk to them about stuff like ISAs to protect as much of your income as you can. Don’t forget that you can be putting a few hundred here and there into ISAs (and your wife) to get as much as possible into tax free savings.

    Budget November 2025

Yes, I understand that. But what you are in effect doing therefore, by saying pensioners should pay no tax, is asking youngsters now, many of whom will never be able to own their own house, to pay more tax so that your kids will inherit as much as possible. It’s a constant widening of the...

No. But you can release equity from your house if you need cash.

    Budget November 2025

I completely agree with you. In fact, when I am fully retired I thought about writing some stuff about it for schools. I tell you who does get taught about this sort of stuff - kids who go to schools that aren’t Swansea comps! I absolutely would not trust adverts on Facebook etc. If you want...

Yes you have. You just ignore the houses that they own outright without any mortgage.

A few grand and you won’t pay tax. Which is what we are talking about about.

    Budget November 2025

Yep. It’s because of the property wealth. The over 65 generation have more wealth than any generation is history. And far more than the generations after them. Albeit, a lot of that wealth will be passed down over the coming years.

    Budget November 2025

There’s no limit on the total amount you can hold in ISAs. It’s just a limit of adding £20k per year to the total. All interest on all iSAs is tax free. Not just on one every year. You could have half a million quid in ISAs and the interest will be tax free. Added: One of the biggest bug...

    Budget November 2025

It may surprise you to know that the current average total wealth of UK pensioners (65 plus) is £730k. The median wealth (which is a figure that’s doesn’t get distorted by those at the very top) is £467k. And you don’t think they should pay any tax?

    Budget November 2025

Anyone with a ‘few bob’ won’t be paying tax on their interest income. Which is what we’re talking about.

    Budget November 2025

Of course people can have some luxuries. But if people have been in a position where they have been able to save more than £20k per year, they’ll be just fine. You quite obviously don’t understand the way ISAs work. It’s PER YEAR. Any pensioner with anything like a ‘modest’ amount of savings...

    Budget November 2025

You did. You keep saying pensioners should pay no tax on pensions or on savings. They are the wealthiest group in this country.

    Budget November 2025

You don’t need to remove anything. You have £20k per annum, not at a time. You can have loads of ISA accounts. And it’s not being reduced for pensioners.
