Myself and a friend were on the brink of going to see what was his final farewell to his fans in Birmingham, and which now has a great deal more finality to it due to his passing.
Maybe we should have gone, but the thought of seeing so many of those other bands, that were not to our liking put us off somewhat.
Luckily we did get to see Sabbath play the final concert of their The End tour in Birmingham and, although it was minus Bill Ward on drums, was a mega thrill for the both of us.
Equally lucky was the fact that my friend bought the two tickets for that show from a work colleague who couldn’t make the gig for some reason.
I felt very fortunate to have seen those 3 legends of music play live together that night, and now that feeling has turned to one of being blessed to have been in the same room as the man himself.
Here’s to another all time great who has “shuffled off this mortal coil.”
R.I.P.
