To be fair I cant see much difference in what you have quoted, I've just had a scan and they reckon there could be at least 2 billion of each console and pc gamers. There are obviously variations depending on where you look. Big numbers.

I cannot find the link now. Regardless, I still think it’s niche on the basis that I can’t think of any other significant purpose for using desktops. Cloud computing, thin clients, broadband expansion and the need for mobility have killed off most the attributes of desktop computing.
