• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

That's what multiple Google results estimated, no idea if that's accurate but it wouldn't surprise me.
Statista.com puts the user count at 156 million by 2029, and that includes laptop users.

If it was one in five it would equate to 50k Swansea residents regularly whacking out a few levels of Doom. Google has that one wrong.

I’m sure it is, but even if you remove the majority of 400 million who live in the sticks, remove the console users, remove the laptop users, it still wouldn’t be one in five.

To be fair I cant see much difference in what you have quoted, I've just had a scan and they reckon there could be at least 2 billion of each console and pc gamers. There are obviously variations depending on where you look. Big numbers.

I think you may have read the numbers on Statista.com wrong (that was one of the results I got when I searched it earlier). To be fair, they don't present them very well, but if you scroll down past the bar chart, it confirms below that it's in billions:

A Warcraft III platform had 300 million Chinese and Taiwanese playing at one point, the platform told you how many played it and that was in 2008.. some kids these days don't know what lag and ping were, especially playing someone from China.. now, fiber is so good, it spoils the fun

Remember the old Space Invaders game in the pubs? The first ones were built into a table, you had to sit on a stool and look down at the screen, you could literally play the game whilst picking your pint up between levels for a glug! 😍

Bargain 😲

I cannot find the link now. Regardless, I still think it’s niche on the basis that I can’t think of any other significant purpose for using desktops. Cloud computing, thin clients, broadband expansion and the need for mobility have killed off most the attributes of desktop computing.

I usually use a tablet or phone for browsing, but there are times I use an old iMac when I need to do something a bit more detailed, I really dislike it. For work I have a laptop which I hook up to an extra screen when I work from home, I have a lap top stand and set it at the same height as the main screen and it works well. In my old job I had a 3 screen system, it was like sitting on the bridge of the Star Ship Enterprise and the dogs bs.

I'm not sure about the lag and ping part Skip, my kids play online games on their consoles, and the lag looks very much the same, as to what it was 15 year ago.

Sure that's something to do with the gaming servers? Not always the individuals connection?

I’ve just bought a desktop. The graphics card is nearly the size of a laptop!

It was all laptops at work though, but it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t need to be portable.
