Ashes 2021

Cummins said he was glad he lost the toss because he was undecided but probably would have batted first as well.

If Cummins had won the toss and batted first Australia would still have posted 350/400 though.

Therein lies the difference...

Personally looking forward to why Root batted first. Then again by the time post match interview comes along hed have had 3 days to think of a reason.
Mind boggling.

Have faith, mun. This is clearly going to go deep into day 5 which gives him more time.

Is Stokes fully fit? I heard his knee was troubling him and some of the others looked tired!

Why on earth isn't the technology in place and working???

Stokes injured his knee fielding, and Robinson went off looking knackered (??), and didn't take the 2nd new ball.

They certainly went after Leach, trying to break his confidence at the start of the series - with only Bess as the 2nd spinner in the squad.

I’m calling it a night after forty odd mins. England are simply not at the races, sloppy fielding leading to overthrows and Mitchell Starc is getting stuck into the new ball. I’ll be amazed if I don’t wake up to the headline of ‘England lose inside three days’.

Stokes getting smashed for six. I really am going to bed now.

Good fight back today from Root and Malan - unlikely to save the test given the performance on Day 1 and 2 but enough to suggest that there maybe some hope of a competitive series

Let's at least make them work for the win

Yes, I’m slightly more optimistic this morning than I was last night as that first half hour was dreadful viewing. Malan came good and he’s the guy who I think is best placed to support Root.

Close the deficit before the new ball is given, see that off with some patience, build a lead of 200 and then bowl Australia out just after tea on day 5. Easy!

Well a bit of fight from Root and Malan.
Hopefully this will boost morale

Am staying up whilst Stokes/Butler are in.
Guess I'll be kippin in arf hour.

Well that was a brief interlude yesterday in four days of pretty depressing cricket

Unacceptable. Losing 7 wickets for just 88 runs after Root and Malan tried to fightback but they went quickly once play resumed.
Root needs to challenge the squad now to wise up or they'll be a laughing stock and hammered.
