• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Highly paid professional sportsmen mind, if they refuse to travel because the can't take thier families with them and be apart, hold up in thier 5 star accommodation for a few months, then relieve them of thier very lucrative central contracts.
They should try working on an oil rig in the North Sea in February for a month perhaps 👍

They'll be away for far more than a month though, won't they?

At a time when Test Cricket is under threat from franchise T20, they should be bending over backwards to accommodate whatever it is these test players want.

At least some of the players will be in the World T20 immediately preceding the Ashes as well.

Aye more like 3 months, but the fact remains they will be staying in 5 star accommodation and getting very well paid for thier time.
If they can't take thier families with them tough luck, try working in a factory for minimum wage if they feel so disadvantaged.

Or they could just not tour. No real skin off most of their noses if you’re playing a few T20 tournaments a year for silly money

Why would they not tour? Because they can't take thier WAGS with them

That's literally what the article is saying although it does refer to "young families".

Personally, I can see where they're coming from.

Haven't seen the article to be honest, but stand by what I say, if they don't want to travel to Australia and stay in first class accommodation to do what they have been extremely well paid to do then fine, rip up thier central contracts and give them to other professional cricketers who are willing, believe me, there won't be any shortage of takers...

On the basis that we are talking about the T20 specialists from what the article says, that would probably do more damage to England than it would to the individuals.

England need the likes of Stokes, Buttler etc. more than they need to play Test Cricket for England.

Not sure how reliable this is - https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/07/24/ben-stokes-salary-net-worth/ - but it looks like he will make £1m a year for playing in every single Test, T20 and ODI for England (which he never does anyway) or £1.4m for playing 6 weeks in the IPL.

He could also pick up the best part of around £300k for playing in the Hundred and the BBL.

Unfortunately, the ECB probably has to keep them happy, however much you or I may disagree with it

I see where your coming from, but my point is, if the likes of Stokes, Butler, Bairstow ect don't want to be involved in the Ashes because they have little desire to tour because they don't need the money, then so be it, remove them from thier contract and move on.
If the ECB are willing to be held to ransome by a few mercenaries that aren't prepared to take part in one of the greatest sporting events on the planet, then that will be the end of Test cricket...

I can see your point too but taking those players out of the test team probably massively impacts crowds, TV rights etc.

All that said… not sure what the ECB can do about Australian COVID rules other than place them under a lot of pressure.

Don’t suppose some sort of private flight and transportation to the hotel to isolate be too much to ask.
