On the basis that we are talking about the T20 specialists from what the article says, that would probably do more damage to England than it would to the individuals.
England need the likes of Stokes, Buttler etc. more than they need to play Test Cricket for England.
Not sure how reliable this is - https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/07/24/ben-stokes-salary-net-worth/ - but it looks like he will make £1m a year for playing in every single Test, T20 and ODI for England (which he never does anyway) or £1.4m for playing 6 weeks in the IPL.
He could also pick up the best part of around £300k for playing in the Hundred and the BBL.
Unfortunately, the ECB probably has to keep them happy, however much you or I may disagree with it
