Bender

Has he made a mistake since coming back into the side?

Us no longer dicking about with the ball at the back (mostly) has made things a bit easier for him, but he's been excellent in just about every area. Strong, decisive, willing to go long when needs be and alert to quick throw out opportunities, which is something we haven't had in a keeper probably since Vorm.

I see Benda signed a contract extension last year, so he's under contract until summer 2024.

No matter what league we're in after this season, I think extending it again should be a priority unless he has a catastrophic loss of form or serious injury. He's 24, so still young for a goalkeeper and I wouldn't want to go into next season with him in the last year of his contract.

Given how we've dicked him about recently, make it clear to him he's our Number 1, he's valued here and reward him with an improved deal. Means we'll get maximum value for him if he carries on improving and the vultures start circling.

None of the goals we have conceded since he came back into the side he has been at fault for and he has also made some spectacular saves in that time too.

Fully vindicating those who said that he was the superior keeper to Fisher, not that we did Fisher any favours with our dicking about at the back until we changed our style of play slightly.

He's also vindicating those who wondered why we bothered bringing Woodman back for a second season when SB had just had an excellent loan spell at Swindon.

Personally I’m holding my hands up with him at the moment. Historically he was a liability gifting goals in nearly every game he played and I didn’t want him anywhere near the team.

The change in less fannying is allowing him to settle and build his confidence. We still have a few unnecessary heart in mouths momens; but we are definitely looking a stronger confident bunch back there generally at present.

He's nailed down the keepers spot, we are going to have to sign a decent backup keeper now and hope someone will take Fisher off our hands.

I don't understand why the coach advocates for playing it out at all costs can't see that occasionally, b you twat it up the field? Spurs yesterday were throwing it about and got caught almost every time.

Well, no he's not really is he? HE had a good loan spell at Swindon three years ago, his exceptional loan spell at Peterborough is the one that proved he was ready for CHampionship football. Nobody will ever know if he would have been ready in the second season under Cooper.

What he is vindicating now is that he is better than Fisher

I said previously that I thought that Benda was better than Fisher in all aspects but experience playing under the RM system which admittedly puts any keeper under huge pressure if the defenders are even slightly below par at any given moment let alone for a whole game.

Since RM has tweaked his system the strengths that Benda brings to the side are evident. His willingness to claim/punch crosses, his shot stopping ability and overall consistency to his game are a clear level above Fisher's.

This time it is Fisher's turn to watch and learn from Benda in ways that he can improve his game because for now Benda has clearly established himself as the number 1.

He doesn't anymore he's given Benda the licence to go long if needed. It's not forced anymore.
