This is why I'm not to harsh on the Americans at the moment, I don't expect us to be sucked into this FFP stuff and we are in a relatively sound financial footing at the moment.

I wouldn't say I trust them, and I don't like the way they go about certain things. I don't think they have a good reputation in the game over here with the deals we have pulled out of last minute etc, and I'm certain they are guilty of false promises constantly, but we could be alot worse off at the moment without the action they took after relegation.

The only smart, long term play is to live within our means. If that means upsetting those who whine and howl and demand "ambishun" then so be it.

They are thrifty which is a good thing for the club overall but it is annoying when we were told when they came in 'they had the desire and resources to succeed' but can't find a 300k no brainer to get O Reilly on board or even when we're in the Prem wouldn't sanction any moves for a Siggy replacement until the ink was dry on the contract to sell him when everyone knew for weeks he was going and what we'd get for him. When it was finally completed Clucas was left and Hull pulled our pants down over the price too. Doing things differently but taking a slight risk spending some of the Siggy money before he comes in would have been a better financial decision than what ultimately happened.

Slightly worrying too if they couldn't find £300K
Surely in the scheme of things not a massive amount ?
Especially as could have been recouped, if not in January then in the summer by selling off some players who were deemed surplus to requirements or worthy of selling ?

The £300k thing up front for O'Riley is a myth though. The release clause was the release clause we knew the score and couldn't activate it as we couldn't make any sales. O'Riley wanted to come here aswell, 100%. We found £300k for Ogbeta, if that was the fee for O'Riley it would have been done.

It's the not signing off on the Giles loan and the cancelling deal with Brighton for the other lad is what I am more peeved with.

Well yes it was all about very strict budgets which is fine, but as above having wealthy owners with resources and bold claims you'd think we'd have some leeway, especially considering how low a risk an O'Reilly or a Giles loan would have been.

Having said that, 300k for an injured League 1 guy who may not play until march who's out of contract in June was a weird decision.

Totally agree. What they will say though that the loan covered us for the covid period when the players etc wouldn't defer wages.

Yes. what is worrying is where has all that loan gone if the club has had it at all (the cut price Rodon sale was also framed to keep us afloat during the pandemic), seeing as the club's still having to take advances on the Rodon proceeds?

Looking aside from the playing squad, then Covid will have had some effect, as will the dirt cheap season tickets this season.

However, as with everything, the biggest figure by some distance is always the playing squad. We were one of the few clubs this year to pay fees for players. I would imagine some are on big wages. I was surprised we retained Grimes, as I expect he'll be on a decent whack.
