Eleven years of service for £400k. 300+ games. Played all through the top flight years, two goals in a cup final, no shortage of effort or professionalism, and this is how the club announces his departure.

Pretty shocking really.

Agreed that it's not a good look for the club. Obviously he's not the player he was, but too many have forgotten how good he was for us.

Having said that, I read the BBC article about him and they mention he was our player of the season when we were promoted, which I had completely forgotten myself. Did we really vote for him ahead of Scotty?

When or if he goes, I'd like to say a massive thank you. We shouldn't forget that despite his disappearance to Leicester, he's given us plenty to smile about.
Good luck YJB.

He'll always have a place in my heart. He worked his socks off for us throughout our rise to the PL.
Once we got to the top flight he was not far off an England squad place with Leon.
Great servant for us and too right he'll always be welcome.

I remember him giving Ashley Cole nightmares on more than one occasion - getting him sent off - when Cole was widely considered one of the best fullbacks in world football

He's been an awesome servant and should - IMO at least - have a Wembley hat-trick to his name

He’s been a superb player for us over the years but I can’t lie I couldn’t give a fuck how the club have announced it.
I see people on twitter saying he (and Rangel) should be given a coaching role, what the fuck do people think we are some kind of charity?

Agree with Darran here, the guy has earned over 10million in his 11 years with us... Surely reward in itself!?

If I walked away from my work after 10years and earned 11m, I wouldn't give two hoots how they treated me on my departure.

Been a great servant to the club, think his linking with AR22 contributed to so much of our success at a higher level, they had a fantastic understanding between them.

Been stealing a living for the last 5 years

Thanks for the memories of the promotion season & our 1st season in the PL.

Enjoy the cash :D

I agree that those who suggest every long-serving player should be given a coaching role are wrong. Coaches should be appointed on merit, not for sentimental reasons.

However, giving a player who has been a huge part of our success for many years an appropriate send-off is the kind of thing a club with class would do. Sadly that ship sailed years ago when it comes to our football club.

The comparison with a non-football job is pointless, not least because I doubt thousands of fans pay to watch you work and feel joy when you do your job well. I can imagine people who are defending the lack of class shown by the club would be apoplectic if Britton's departure had been handled in the same way (and I am not suggesting this has anything to do with skin colour, before someone jumps to that conclusion, more the lack of appreciation people have for how good Dyer was for us).

Agree with this. Professional football at the top level is more than well paid. It’s a business at the end of the day and most players couldn’t give a toss who they play for, it’s the pay cheque that counts. On the other hand a good sending off for a long term player - long term, not loyal - only the fans are loyal - should be a given. We’re better than that.

Thanks for the memories Nathan

The club finally confirmed Nathan Dyer would be departing Swansea City yesterday in a somewhat bizarre way in Steve Cooper’s press conference thus officially ending a long time connection between the club and player that really deserved just a little bit better official communication.

I can't agree with that. He was great from the day he got here right through until Laudrup started using him and Sinclair as inside forwards. He was still very good then and we were still good to watch for a time, but he was never as good again as he was when we used to play with the sort of width we did through Martinez, Sousa and Brendan. It's easy to forget how good he was but he used to swap sides with ease and the way he inter-played with Rangel and Britton at times was incredible. When we sacrificed width we sacrificed Nathan and he's never been the same since, but when he was good and we were good there were few better than him. He's hardy and old man now so when he gets a new club someone is going to get a very good player.

One of the greatest Swans wingers of all time. Change my mind.
