My pal Johnnie Walker just mentioned this gig 46 years ago today Sounds of the 70s.

Sure there is a saying somewhere , " I was There " , applies regarding this occasion .

There must be plenty of us who saw the Who at the Vetch and the Liberty?

Did not see them at The Liberty , but remember late 70 "s , them at the old Wembley Stadium .

Support that day was The Stranglers and third on the bill were AC /DC , how things have changed .

My mate on Twitter just pointed out the ticket number.
How many people were at the gig then?
Try going to WalesOnline facebook page , in the search put " who at Vetch Field " and is should take you to some photos from the event .

Bit of an effort looking for them , but some pics online after hunting hard enough for them .Good Luck .

Should add they were on their pictures website online dated June 12 2013 .

It's amazing how little tickets went up in price back then as opposed to now. Saw Whitesnake there the year after this and tickets were still a fiver.

Rush made their one and only Welsh appearance there.

We are supposed to be going to that, not sure we’ll make it yet though.
We had tickets to see Jimmy Page last week and they went in the f*cking bin.

I won’t be there life’s a c*nt.

Sorry to hear that Darran. Hopefully Amy's OK.

Queen in Birmingham , last night , ignore it if you wish .

Yes , only 2 original members and having seen Nina Strauss some weeks ago I really can compare these 2 great guitarists from different generations , easy , both outstanding , albiet Brian May is 75 .

Adam Lambert is obviously no Freddie and admits to that fact , but his vocals are so strong , something that does not come across on the tele . Roger Taylor , another OAP does not miss a beat .

Having been to many Stadium / Arena / Town Hall shows , I must admit the set design and video backdrop screens along with truly , the best light show light show I have ever seen , all subtle mood changes to suit the track with no unnecessary over the top pyrotechnics or flashlights .

Ok , not everyone will take a bit of notice of this post , but , I enjoyed the show . :D

Maiden got off to a very slow start - awful choice of setlist to begin, but were their usual epic selves by the end of the set

Don't suppose this will be of much interest to most on here, but here's my post on the Maiden forums. Death threats incoming

Not gonna lie, I really disliked the start to the show. I had avoided the setlist spoilers so I went in not knowing what to expect. IMO Senjutsu works on the album but it’s an awful opener to a live show. It’s so offbeat and plodding. Rock in Rio with the Wickerman is the gold standard for me

I think it would work better if an abridged version of Senjutsu is played over the speakers, then the band burst out to the start of Stratego. Although dispersing the Senjutsu material through out the set would work even better, but i guess that spoils the realm theme which just felt tacked on to me (and bringing out Eddie on the first song!? It feels better when the treats are built up)

On top of the song choices, the turnover time whilst removing the Senjutsu stageset was ridiculous and killed the atmosphere even further. Bruce’s ‘bare with us whilst we move house’ comment made me chuckle though

This wasn’t Hammersmith Odeon in front of 4,000 fan club members - Senjutsu, Stratego, TWotW, Revelations, Blood Brothers and Sign of the Cross is not a good way to start a live show in front of tens of thousands of neutrals. I mean I love these songs - but in that order? Right at the start of the set? Not for me

THAT SAID, normal service was resumed with the rest of the set and the show build up to an epic crescendo. The band sounded great

I would be interested to hear what non-Maiden fans thought of the performance - some people around me seemed pretty disengaged and dare I say bored 6 songs in

I suspect I may upset some people but that’s not my intention. Just my honest feelings

The better concerts I've been too have always begun with at least 2 maybe 3 uptempo crowd pleasers to get everyone in the mood and then the band can do what they want. Finish with another or even a slower sing-a-long and everyone goes home happy.

Tears for Fears are £37 at Cardiff Castle in July if anyone's interested. Tickets through Groupon.
Bryan Adams is £35 but that's in Leeds or Norwich.

That stems from Ticketmaster having a 2 for 1 sale on some gigs recently.
