Anyone want to have a decent attempt to understand why we signed an "injury prone past his best 32 year old midfielder being released by Stoke"

Perhaps he cost us nothing? Sad to see such a great player for us back in the day struggle so badly.

Joe for the first month or so was class.

Now he's made of glass.

If only there was such a thing as a player that cost us nothing

As said in another post shame to see him like this but the reaction had that players name not been Joe Allen would be horrendous - we shouldnt give anyone a free pass for this signing which was always going to be a bad one

Against Sheff Utd he was immense, but agree he just doesn't seem to have more than 60 minutes in him anymore

Some on here were raving when we signed him again. Always smelled of retirement home last pay day from us to Joe and I said as much at the time.

He’s not Joe90 anymore, he’s Joe60 when he’s not injured.

It was a punt. If he'd managed to bounce back from his injury and stay fit he would have been fine as a squad player. It smacks of desperation when he's our main signing.

We've got not money, we've got a club owner/leadership team who don't know what they're doing, a manger whose been hung out to dry and also the manager who doesn't really know what he's doing either.

Not a good recipe. Although I'm far from surprised. I thought we'd be in a relegation battle; I'm just surprised we had that good spell. This is exactly what I was expecting based on how we're run.

Apparently there's illness in the camp and I could be wrong, but I think it was more to do with illness rather that injury cause he seemed to march down the tunnel.

When we signed him I said that it was a bad move and for Joe, a nice final earner before he hangs up his boots.

He’s been done for a few years now. We needed young, fresh blood in the ranks not tired old players like Allen.

Never been a great as some have described him, a good player but not fit to lace the boots of Leon who was a truly great player in all four divisions.

I wouldn't rush to write the obituary of any player being coached by Martin.

41 league appearances last season including 17 starts on the trot without being substituted off.

His predicament may have started playing for Wales against Belgium last summer but it's been further exasperated by Russell Martin.

Just look at how he handled Latibeaudure's injury against Millwall and Benda's injury against QPR. The way he has pissed players about including Darling and Sorinola instead of helping them learn from their mistakes.

I personally don't agree with all the couch potato managers on here about Allen being finished but I don't trust our arrogant twat of a manager to get the best out of him either.

Allen needs a pre season with us before he can be judged properly and considering how Naughton is likely being forced out; we need all the experience in the squad we can get.
