As far as I know, it's only one site that's been pushing that rumour.
If PL teams were serious about him as their first choice option, there would have been a lot more action by now IMO. Sounds most likely he's a little way down the lists, if he's on them, so may need to set expectations accordingly.
I'm thinking it's common knowledge in football that we're a club that needs to regularly sell players to stay in the black, so why would any club feel the need to offer us big money for a player like Piroe? They can wait until later in the summer and turn to him if other targets don't work out, knowing we'll probably be forced to accept a fee lower than his actual value.
We've gone from getting £20m+ for the likes of Mawson and McBurnie to only £11m for Rodon because clubs know we're in a weak position. If a club wants to wait and see if Piroe is a one-season wonder, then they can because we'll be in an even weaker position next summer with just 1 year left on his contract.
If the club are trying to adopt a Brentford like approach then they're doing a s**t job of it. If Brentford were in a position to have to sell the likes of Watkins, Benrahma and Maupay, they did a good job of keeping it quiet and were able to sell high.
What do we do if no-one wants any of our players this summer? More loans to keep the club afloat and hope for offers next summer? Doesn't sound promising.
