New manager

It feels like as a fan base we’re a bit apathetic regarding managerial appointments now…we’re so used to the club fannying around and taking weeks/months to appoint people that many of us probably feel like it’s pointless speculating.

I mean, would you be surprised if we didn’t have a manager by the end of January? I certainly wouldn’t.

Nothing surprises me about our owners. We still haven't had compensation for Martin leaving. They should have played hardball; you're a contracted employer, you will continue to perform your duties for us, or go on gardening leave, until compensation is agreed. That would have got Soton into gear, instead of taking the p*ss out of us.

Is it me or has it all gone quiet on the new manager front?

Certainly has. Which means either their giving Sheehan a go, or (more likely) we've narrowed our search drastically to just a couple of candidates who are in our sights. Im guessing there's some early negotiating going on for someone behind the scenes that is being worked out.

If we were still actively looking then there'd be a lot of noise still around potential candidates with agents trying to get their man in the spotlight and different politics going on as well as the betting odds going all over the place. I'm taking it as good news for now!

It wouldn't surprise me if they're seeing how Stoke and Boro goes under Sheehan first, before deciding upon whether or not to go back to the table with Levy at Spurs.

Three wins in a week and they might conclude it's less hassle to say to Sheehan it's yours till summer, than persist negotiating with one of the biggest pains in the arse in football.

Then go from there.

Not saying I agree mind, but it's something you could easily see happening.

You know what, I no loger give two f***s who is manager. Just get on the grass and give those stokers the humping they deserve. You know, as highly paid professionals, do your job properly. Defend properly, pass properly, move properly, score properly.

Hard to argue with that tbh, taking tonight's game in isolation.

Much as I couldn't stand Duff, I do think players look for excuses not to perform wherever they can sometimes.

I'm hoping it's quiet as we only had one target (Chris Davies) that we know wants to come here, and we're just working through the details with Spurs of getting him so we can crack on with riding into the sunset together.

There are many other alternative possibilities for the lack of news that are not so comforting..

Or more likely:

"Three wins in a week and they will conclude it's far cheaper to say to Sheehan it's yours till summer"

Yeah I hear you on that one

Coleman (in particular) and Watson have come in for quite a lot of flak on social media but they don't strike me as the types to dither. Particularly not with the transfer window opening in a little over two weeks.

Just because things have gone quiet, doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Do we know Davies wants to come? All we know is that Postecoglu has said he wouldn't stand in his way.

I agree on the silence being rather concerning 8 days in though.

The way I see it is that if he didn't want to come, that would be public knowledge by now. It's been 5 days since we made the approach to Spurs, I assume we'd have heard through the grapevine if he'd turned us down. I know Spurs turned down our approach, but there are other avenues for him to convey if he was interested or not other than official approaches.

Saying that, if he did turn us down in the summer, not sure why he'd have done a 180 on the job in the interim, given the feel-good environment there is at Spurs compared to the borderline shambles we have here.
