Anyone out late tonight there could be a chance to see the Northern Lights as far south as Devon.
Snowing up here at the moment but hopefully clearing by midnight.

Pretty cloudy here. No street lights around us but I can see the lights of Glastonbury and Bridgwater illuminating the cloudy sky. Might be some breaks in the cloud around 2-3am but not likely to be conscious then!

It really would be ironic if I spent last week in Iceland without seeing them but then came back and saw them from my bedroom window! 😂😂

Always wanted to see the Northern Lights. I was in Finland last year and while the KP index was high, we had low cloud cover and couldn't see a thing. Was very disappointed.

That's pretty much the same situation I had in Iceland last week plus it was going down to -8 to -10C real feel once it was dark enough which didn't provide me with much motivation to go outside! Quite fancy Finland myself too.

We were up in the Arctic Circle close to the Finland - Sweden border, it was between -27C and -35C for most of the time we were there. Coldest it had been there for a number of years, fortunately the wind wasn’t very strong so we didn’t get a wind chill factor on top. We had the proper boots, snow suits and gloves, but my hands still felt the cold. Going to hav3 to venture up that way again!

I did my PhD in northern Iceland years ago so spent many months out there. Mostly it was in the summer, but once it got to September it was dark enough for the northern lights to kick in and they were spectacular. I’d stick my head out of the tent and fall asleep watching them. Chuffing cold way to camp though!

For those trying to see them, it’s well worth persevering.

Proper cold that. We were skiing in Quebec a few years back and it was -25. They shut the upper slopes as people were getting frost nip on their noses. I’ve done fieldwork in Arctic and high mountains and have struggled to get that low. -20° in the Himalayas over night maybe, but then you get sunburnt during the day to warm up. We were camping mind, but -30°ish wouldn’t have been fun.

Saw this a few days ago on twitbook.

Wasn't as good as it was supposed to be in Europe but they had some good pics in USA.

Here's one I took from the Shetland web cams. Burrafirth and Cliff 3 are the 2 best webcams to see them on. If you go on the 12 hour feeds you can see the progression through the night.

Don’t be conned guys, it’s just a massive laser driven lightshow put on by the Icelandic Government to aid tourism and boost the economy.
