The fans have been heard. Liverpool fans deserve this. Outstanding football club and top fans 👏

Utter bullsh1t.

His assertion that this was never going ahead without the fans approval is a bare faced lie. Fans were not consulted or considered so to suggest what he did is an insult to the intelligence of anyone who watches that tripe.

So-called fans really don't matter to these so-called super clubs anymore ... all they care about is how much they can get out of their customers via any means possible. This will all come around again once the likes of Amazon decide they want to outdo Sky and BT for global distribution of a super league.

What the pandemic has shown is that top level sport continues regardless of fans being present in the stadia ... as long as customers are prepared to pay for the content.

But the fans have been heard. I wonder what's gonna happen next? Interesting times ahead me finks

Totally naive. “The fans” haven’t been heard at all. The FA who told them they’d be booted out of domestic competition, UEFA who were going to boot them out of Europe on Friday, and the Government, who told them they’d legislate to stop it, have been heard. Why on earth do you think they’d care for the opinions of their ‘legacy audience’. Plenty more plastics in Asia to replace the plastics from Essex, Plymouth and South Wales. Richer ones too.

The fans have been heard...fuck my eyes.

Exactly this

That was the first salvo. Now the organisers know what resistance to expect when the fully introduce a fully independent league.
Anyone who thinks Chelsea and Man Utd fans won't go these matches is deluded. Some won't, some will protest but the vast majority will.

F**k my eyes, you are deluded. But never mind, you know best 👍

Anyone who believes this has fallen apart because of the fans is truly naive. At a push, you could say the demonstrations at Stamford Bridge pushed Chelsea into withdrawing, but it's been widely reported that Chelsea and Man City were only consulted relatively late and jumped on board more through fear of missing out than of any real belief in the idea. Not surprising they were the first to back out and even then it's likely the threats of sanctions from the PL, FA, UEFA and FIFA had more to do with it than the fan protests.

Liverpool were one of the ringleaders of the whole thing along with Man United, Real Madrid and Juventus. Let's face it, this is hardly the first humiliating backtracking exercise that FSG have had to undertake since taking charge of Liverpool. If clubs hadn't started to pull out and thereby doom the whole enterprise, Liverpool would still be all in on it, fans be damned.

Wow, another 👏 I've never known so many people 'in one place' that know it all about the ongoings of everything football, I'm wowed

No worries bud. If you want to believe that Liverpool withdrew because of their fans then you go right ahead and do so. I don't know it all, just going with what I consider to be common sense. If you've got a strong counter argument, I'd love to hear it.

Have to say JS, I think the fans played a big part in it. If their supporters had been on board with the idea I suspect the clubs would have been quite happy to stick two fingers up at UEFA and FIFA and forge their own path. The Governing bodies don't have half the power that they think they do, not in the face of serious opposition from the clubs who generate most of the interest, and most important of all, that interest itself.

The furious reaction in England sparked the withdrawal of the first couple of clubs then the rest of the six realised it was doomed. Without them it just couldn't go ahead. Bayern Munich turned them down flat in the first place, probably because they were smart enough to realise that their supporters wouldn't have it.

I can certainly believe that the fan reaction pushed Chelsea and Man City into withdrawing, although all the reporting around this suggests they were approached late and were never really convinced about the concept. So they likely didn't need much of a push to withdraw.

Liverpool though? Nah, they again have been widely reported to be one of the architects of the scheme and it's my belief they would have pushed through with it no matter what the fans thought had clubs not started withdrawing. Obviously I could be wrong, but I find it stunning that anyone would believe what the owner says in his video.

I think you're spot on in your last paragraph. The German clubs and their 50+1 ownership model shows its worth again. It would be great if the anger about this proposal leads to a widespread demand for change in football and for more equitable spreading of the wealth, but it would take a monumental effort.

Even if they were only following the trend, that trend still started as a result of supporter unrest. I won't disagree that the likes of FSG and Kroenke will be privately livid that their plan for an NFL style closed league with everything else relegated to minor status has been killed, but they had no choice. If the fans were behind the idea, they'd have gone ahead with it.

It'll be ironic and deeply amusing if all this brings about a "50+1" style requirement Europe wide. One of the things they'd have wanted to avoid the most coming as a direct result of their actions.

I think fan power played a part, but not as much as a lot of people think. If the club’s cared that much for their fans much they wouldn’t be charging fans £65 for a polyester top!

The whole concept is nothing but arrogance, greed and complete and utter selfishness as these clubs want to close out the others. They want their cake and to be able to eat it. The concept hasn’t been helped by the fact Bayern and PSG weren’t onboard, but UEFA, FIFA and certainly in the UK the prospect of the club’s being thrown out of the PL will have focussed the minds. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus have spent hundreds and hundreds of millions and are facing financial turbulence, they need the ESL more than the English club’s need them. I’d imagine the players wouldn’t want to give up their international status for some nonsense friendly league.

The PL is one of the most competitive leagues in Europe if not the world which is part of its attraction. Leicester and West Ham are currently occupying positions normally taken by Big 6 clubs which is bound to financially damage clubs like Arsenal and Spurs, I got one hope the both qualify for the Champions League.
