“France has reportedly said it will accept only a small initial contingent of deportations of around 50 people, while the UK has said it hopes to increase numbers over the course of the scheme in an effort to stop small boat crossings in the Channel.”

Shambolic.

What’s your solution

Didn't Labour pledge to reduce the small boat crossings as part of their election campaign?

A quick search suggest crossing are 34% than the previous year.

Regardless of Brexit, the current government aren't doing anything like they promised us they would.

Have a read, there were multiple manifesto pledges.

Four years to go though.
True, they certainly need to get their act together and sharpish.

Can you see Starmer being in charge of the next general election? It will be interesting to see what happens if Lucy Powell wins the race to become the next Deputy Leader.

In a nutshell they're partly delivering on some pledges with serious gaps on others.
Reducing small boat arrivals is the measure we hear about the most, and here the data doesn’t look good for Labour. On the basis of there being years until the next election then surely ‘one in one out’ is not just there to influence opinion polls, but on the other hand I’m not seeing how agreement on movement of such low numbers acts as the deterrent that it’s designed to be.

Ha wrong week to ask given that at the moment he looks fucked. 🤣 But yes, I think he’ll still be in charge at the next election. Assuming he wants to be.
