    All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

    Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

    It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

    The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Second persimmon (variety is Rojo Brilliante) eaten. The flesh had definitely softened and sweetened somewhat. Mrs Bear quite enjoyed. I feel a bit "meh" about it. Roll on the third one, which I might peel as the contrast between the harder texture of skin and the softer flesh weirds me out.

I bought a kilo punnet of six or seven in Lidl yesterday on offer at 1.49€. I think this thread prompted me.
We have various fruits chopped up on top of bran cereal for breakfast, so a persimmon went into the mix this morning. As you said, a bit 'meh'.
 
On a slight variation, has anyone tried dragon fruit? Looks intriguing but again … meh.

The last persimmon had been sitting in the fruit bowl for what seemed like forever. It was well past its "eat by" date and had begun to look a bit bruised. I figured it was destined for the green bin.

Well, last night we were watching "Surgeons: at the edge of life". During a particularly toe-curling scene showing someone's spinal column being fiddled with, Mrs Bear (who, to put it mildly, is somewhat of a stranger to the fruit knife) was drawn by her inner surgeon to go to the kitchen, returning with the final persimmon, perfectly dissected.

Despite its outwardly iffy appearance it was really, really nice; juicy, sweet, flavoursome. Okay, we had to sling the soggier slices but this third one has shown me the light.

I dunno where it sits in my list of fruit likes compared to a good apple/orange/nectarine but I can at least see where Darran was coming from in his initial praise of a fruit I previously had no knowledge of.
 
The misses grabbed a box of them from Costco last week and I have to say they were the best I've had. Super tasty and absolutely huge.
