Rachel Reeves

I disagree on Plaid myself, this nation of sanctuary should be a non starter with the desperate need of more money needed for the services in Wales.
I think we'll see a continuation of Labour's policies albeit with a few tweaks.

Again in my opinion before the Lions on here mount their attack 😂
We need change in the bay and the only ones with any credibility are Plaid, I think we need to see how things could be done differently and holding Westminster to account.

The only way I'd vote Labour is Morgan resigning and taking Drakeford with her. The whole Vaughan Gething thing leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Ps, let them attack, the whole thing about democracy is choosing not to vote if people don't deserve your vote.

I can't see me supporting any of these clowns I honestly can't, Labour, Plaid, Tories and Reform are a complete non starter.

The money he's giving away to other countries for one. The Chagos deal the millions given to Pakistan etc

Surely you can see the wastage yourself? millions on top of millions given away that needs spending here.
Foreign aid is important for a number of reasons. And a tiny amount in relative terms. It’s not just giving money to other countries. It usually comes with caveats, investment etc. there’s a lot of nonsense been written about Chagos as well.

So there's no wastage then and everything is rosey, happy days.

The Chagos deal is the sort of thing that drives me nuts from the standpoint of sensible rational debate which in the past could happen.

When I saw the headlines I was a bit perplexed by the numbers.

But it was something that had started with previous Gov and signed off by this one.

It’s a compromise and the right one. Sovereignty back for the indigenous people (something patriots usually are happy with) and it’s a very long-term lease in the interests of national security.

A proper conservative opposition/press should be supportive with some criticisms at the margins potentially.

On foreign aid. I never got the 0.7% thing. When we as a Country were going through austerity every department should have been up for debate not ring fenced.

But the importance of soft power and helping other nations/continents to thrive is in our national interest again. Be that economically or yes through reductions in emigration.

Yeah but giving free money to brown people or something innit.

The calibre of politician in the bay is poor and there’s no revising chamber.

The Lords for all its faults is tremendous in improving legislation.

Obviously I hope the increase in members will help in this sense but my guess is more dilution and second rate even third rate politicians

Not sure how increasing the numbers is going to make a difference, we're scrapping the bottom of the barrel already, adding more isn't going to improve things.

Happy to be proven wrong.

It’s always foreign aid.
There is research evidence that foreign aid pays dividends in the long run with influence, favour in allocation of development contracts, and growth in developing nations helps reduce the desire of its population to emigrate to the west.

Unfortunately that’s a long term view and few politicians give a shit about long term. They can’t see further than the next election.

The pension triple lock is increasingly unsustainable too. £16bn a year by 2030. It’s a nice idea when the country can afford it but it can’t. Should increase by inflation only.
This is definitely the area that should be targeted. The triple lock maybe had some value when it was introduced to take many more pensioners out of poverty.

I would definitely remove it and they could actually increase things like winter fuel for poorest to offset. This would be a brilliant medium term move to put finances on right track.

They should increase consider moves on the income tax as well and not just on the “rich” if public sector is to improve it needs sustainable revenue not gimmicks.

Fuel duty is one that could definitely be increased for a few years to raise billions.

Bottom line is bravery is required. I’m all for fiscal conservatism, what I can’t deal with is taxes on business which impact growth.

My guess is Reeves will go for the gimmicks like wealth taxes and stealth taxes which will add little revenue and signal the UK as not a place to invest.

Be brave.

The money we waste on welfare needs to be reviewed. There are too many people in this country taking advantage of it which makes it hard for those who need and deserve help.
That's exactly how I see it. The only time I have ever claimed anything was when I was "on the dole" for 3 weeks after leaving school in 1984. I think I remember getting £16 a week.

I have grown very sceptical in my old age. Unfortunately I don't believe ALL of the foreign aid that we kindly supply to countries is spent on GOOD CAUSES to help that countries population. I think that some is taken by "people in high places" for their own gread 😞. Unfortunately I also think that some charities do the same. This is just my opinion and it does honestly hurt me to have these thoughts 😕
