Just heading back from the above match with a mate who had a spare season ticket.
Manning and Downes started for Southampton, Wood on the bench and Bianchini on the bench for Portsmouth - neither came on.

Looks like Southampton have torn up the Russ bible and gone as opposite as possible. Absolutely everything lumped to no one, Manning just whipping balls down the line straight to their defenders and Downes breaking up a lot then giving away 5 yard passes, got pulled in the second half.

Portsmouth tried to play a bit more football but the only tactic was across the back, try and get up the wing then repeat on the opposite flank.

Ended 0-0 and quite literally nothing happened. At all.

Oh and the Southampton right back has to be one of the absolute worst players I’ve seen at this level in a very long time. Our wingers should have a field day down that side in a few weeks.

Meanwhile, I noticed, while watching the EFL highlights programme, that Harry Darling gifted Coventry a 96th minute equaliser against Norwich by trying to dribble out of his own six yard box and getting caught in possession. Nice one, Harry.

I love to see draws in other Championship matches, me, it gives us the best advantage.

He was also culpable for at least one goal when they played Boro the other week.

Always said that there are better defenders out there than him, he's no loss imo. Burgess is definitely better than him. May not be as good on the ball, but he's much better at the day job.

Burgess is an absolute beast defending anything aerial into the box, isn't he? It's not surprising that Hull's two goals came from a superb low cross and a scramble in the box. He's also clearly experienced at organising a defence and his positioning, to me at least, seems to be very good. His distribution is also good, looks more comfortable playing forward passes than Cabango does. Not Ash level, but a lot better than I expected.

My one concern still is how he'll deal with players with pace running at him. He's looked a little ponderous the few times it's happened. Thankfully, Sheehan's system seems to do well at limiting those opportunities for the opposition.

Not sure if it was down to Burgess or Cabango, but they had two free headers from the centre of the box about 8 yards out. Vig wonder saved one and the other was so messed up it went straight at Vig. Any other day that’s probably two goals.
