My old Dad and I went in Llanelli 'Savers a few weeks back to get our eyes checked.

After getting checked out, and getting 2 new specs for Dad, and 1 for me (varifocal) we were down over 600 notes.....think we've been done.

Anyone recommend a decent 'on-line' specs supplier?

600 quid!!!! They must have seen you coming... 🤓

Doesn’t sound right, it that I’m disputing that it’s the truth but it seems a lot. I just had my first experience of needing glasses and I went there me too - I only need glasses to see close up things and two pairs of titanium frames for 160 quid. It looking forward to needing varifocals.👀

I would use an optician to get a prescription but then look to buy your glasses online.

Varifocals are expensive but not that expensive.

I have used goggles4u.com and glassesdirect.co.uk before now, good service and no issues at all. Most of them give you the chance to return if you dont like them etc and the value is good. I would say you would get varifocals for less than £100 a pair

I usually play around £4-500 for two pairs of varifocals with the lens coating and thinning to make them look less like milk bottles. It ain’t cheap having bad eyesight.

Two pairs of lightweight rimless glasses for £160 last time I used Glasses Direct, and I could have got them for £80 if the sods had sent me the "50% off" voucher a month sooner.

The only real gamble with buying online is getting the pupil distance measurement right, which the High St opticians don't like giving you (you won't find it on your prescription) because they know full well why you're asking for it. You can buy the rulers that they use for a couple of quid on eBay, or I think you can send a selfie to some of the online places and they work it out from that.

Ive had 2 pairs this year both Varifocals, coated and thinned , just about £200 ish though price depends on what frame you decide on,

In my younger days I spent a fortune on beer goggles.

Where to buy varifocals and where to buy standard specs could be different.

Concerning varifocals, WHICH Magazine recommends Asda as better than Specsavers. I would never have thought of them but qualified opticians can work anywhere.

If you're a teacher, your pupils should be two metres apart in the current pandemic.

I'll get my coat.

It's childish I admit, but I did enjoy 'Gbeebies'.
