Out of choice,no way I d stay in UK and only because of weather which negates beautiful beaches at a troke.
No fun in grey,gloomy overcast skies with fed up kids in top trying to keep warm.

If we had the weather let's face it,we'd never go abroad .

But we don't

As scenic as the Gower is, it can't compete with the Costas or many places along the med

The sea off the Algarve can be quite fresh even in August. The Greek islands are different though as the sea is lovely , even into late Sept and Oct.I have been in the sea off Majorca in early November and it was lovely

Unfortunately, the Bristol channel can be very uninviting on times, and often quite dangerous.

I've been in the sea off the Algarve in August and find it ok but as Portugal isn't a Mediterranean country, it's the Atlantic Ocean you're in so always likely to be a bit cooler. Dozens of beaches along Western Algarve and every one absolutely superb.

Know what you mean about the Bristol Channel's tides. We live on the English side and at low tide at places like Brean, you can't even see the sea.

I've been in the Atlantic off Miami beach in early August and it was like a bath, the warmest i have experienced.Just saying!
