• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

Meanwhile, Rees Smug is in crisis talks with Jingye and Tata regarding the futures of Scunthorpe and Port Talbot steelworks respectively.

Draw your own conclusions.

Port Talbot is too big to fail

I think, sir, that is what is known as 'a hostage to fortune'.

What the steel firms are asking for is more public subsidy. Did you not hear Jeremy Cnut in the HOP today?

Tata know port Talbot can't be shut down , they will try and screw the government out of as much cash as they can

I’m not convinced that is the case, committed free marketers will allow it to go to the wall. It would devastate a big tranche of South Wales and, I believe go against the national interest. We need to safeguard sell making so we can source our own supply should the need arise. We can’t rely on other countries.

Steel production is a national security issue , a country has to have it and port Talbot is the biggest , even the Tories wouldn't allow it to shut , even this lot , just my opinion

Mate, they don’t give a fuck about national security, Wales or employment.

That certainly used to be the case but they've allowed it to be owned by foreign nationals and they've lost control.

They'll close the steel works and build hotels, restaurants and bars on it.
They relief road will come and tourism will boom.
A prosperous Wales will ensue.....no doubt a monorail will be part of the plans.

Wishful thinking perhaps but don’t think Lord Snooty will be around much longer and strategic decisions must now play a part. Never know with the Tories though. They don’t do rational.

Mate, they don’t give a f**k about national security, Wales or employment.

It won't be allowed to close down but yes if the Tories could move port Talbot steel works in a day it would be moved to Essex or Kent tomorrow

Not sure about the monorail bit TBH.

It’ll be gone within 10 years I reckon. They closed steel making in Llanwern, which at the time was profit making.

Edit, unless they change to arc furnaces.
