Steve Cooper believes Jordan Morris’ pace and skill will only add to Swansea City’s attacking threat following the forward’s arrival on loan from Seattle Sounders.

The 26-year-old has completed a loan move through to the end of the season, subject to international clearance, with the club also having an option to buy the player in the summer.

Morris will take the number 11 shirt, and bolsters Swansea’s options in the final third following Viktor Gyokeres’ return to Brighton.

Morris arrives with international pedigree, winning 39 caps and scoring 10 goals for the United States since being identified as a young talent by Jurgen Klinsmann.

He also has 35 goals from 135 MLS appearances for the Sounders, helping them win the MLS Cup in 2019.

“Jordan is a high-level player, an international who has played on the highest stage and been successful in the MLS,” said the Swansea head coach.

“He has big ambitions to play in Europe and he had a lot of offers, so to think that we have got him is a really good thing.

“He brings good technique, he is athletic, he is quick and brings a threat. He likes to create and score in those areas of the pitch and we are adding to our attacking threat.

“Having lost a couple of bodies at that end of the pitch, and to be able to do that with Jordan is very positive.”

With Jamal Lowe, Andre Ayew and Liam Cullen already providing competition for forward places, Cooper expects Morris to further add to the level of the squad and that battle for starting opportunities.

“It’s a different challenge for Jordan, but we are looking forward to working with him,” he added.

“You need strength in depth with this schedule we are going through, but it is not just about numbers, it is about having the quality and a good level of player.

“I expect all those players are going to push each other. He has the speed to threaten in behind defences, which is something we like in our team.

“We will look to help him get up and running, but we respect he has had a long journey and it’s a new part of the world for him.

“But we will work with him to get him settled and I can see from speaking to him that he is a good guy, and I am sure he will embrace everything we throw at him.”
