Russell Martin swaps his formation for tonight’s visit of Preston North End either a formation change and a few changes. Harry Darling comes back in for Jay Fulton, Joe Allen for Jamie Paterson whilst Ollie Cooper replaces Olivier Ntcham. ⚠️ 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗫𝗜 ⚠️ Here's...

Someone was wondering on here after the Huddersfield win how long it would be before RM reverts to his preferred 5 at the back when 4 at the back has seen us take 13 points from 5 games to make us safe and also wondering if he would learn from past mistakes. Well, this looks like it could be the answer to both questions so fingers crossed it doesn't bite us on the arse.

RM is a strange creature, after a horrible losing streak with his preferred formation he changed it and got 13 points out of 15. Then he goes back to the formation that caused the problems in the first place.

No slight on Lati but he is no wingback and Darling was doing a better job than him as a conventional fullback.

Doesn't change the screaming need for a right back and left back in the summer though regardless.

Hasn't this been the case for 2 seasons now? We break a poor run by changing how we play, then as soon as Martin feels safe enough to do it, he changes us back to his preferred system. Results then go to shit until he has to change it again. It's why this current run isn't making me any more optimistic for next season.

Another decent win and another 3 pts, not much to grumble about there, pity we didn't concentrate straight after H/T though, to concede that early in the 2nd half put us on the back foot and them scoring again with time in the game added to the stress.

I'm away so not seen anything of it, just had regular updates from her indoors. :D

Had us fooled it was 4 at the back with Manning playing higher up

Pretty lopsided wasn’t it. He’s probably trying to find something that suits Lati  And that wide of the 3 CBs/kind of defensive fullback is probably his role. He can’t put the breaks on attacks so often from there.
