With Paterson now back in the squad (and assuming Naughton may be out) what does the weekend team look like?

Fisher
Christie
Ogbeta

Manning
Cabango
Burns (if we signed him then we must have intention to play him)

Downes
Grimes
Ntcham (or Wolf)

Paterson
Piroe

Bench to include Bennett, Hamer, Wolf/Ntcham, Obafemi, Joseph, Smith

Works for me PS on the assumption that Nauts is out & Pato deemed match fit, otherwise Pato on the bench & give Obafemi another start.

Good point about the match fitness - maybe better on the bench in which case for me its any two from Ntcham/Wolf/Obafemi

I’d start Paterson personally even if he only had one leg.

I'd drop grimes and play wolf and ntcham

I thought Grimes did alright last night and that pass for Obafemi was very good I just wish he would do that more as he has it in him but it's like he's programmed to play the easy ball. Under Potter he would spray the ball everywhere.

He did alright, he always does just alright, that is kind of the problem. Barring one or two the players just ain't good enough for championship level. It is what it is.

GK: Fisher and Hamer
W/B’s: Christie and Ogbeta
Back 3: Bennett, Cabango, Manning
Deep CM: Grimes and Downes
Att Mid; Wolf and Ntcham
Up top: Piroe and Oba

This assumes that KN has a knock and that Pato makes bench.

It also assumes we are allowed 13 on the pitch as well.

As I said in another thread I would much prefer a 4-5-1 formation allowing us to make the most of all of the higher calibre players currently at our disposal. Assuming Naughton is unfit:

----------------------- Fisher -------------------------
Christie --- Burns ----------- Manning ---- Ogbeta
----------- Downes ----------- Grimes --------------
Paterson ------------ Ntcham ----------------- Wolf
------------------------ Piroe -------------------------

That lineup allows downes or Grimes to drop back to cover central defence while Manning or Burns push out into fullback positions when Ogbeta and Christie push forward in case we lose the ball. This will give them the freedom to help create overlapping/underlapping overloads against opposing fullbacks to help us break the lines and get in behind.

Ntcham has the quality to run the show from midfield and we all know about the quality of Piroe's movement and Obafemi's pace. Either of those strikers I think would thrive in this kind of system which isn't really far off that which was utilised by Roberto and Brendan and brought us our success in the first place.

Exciting line up and clever leveraging of our best players.

However the CB space is vulnerable - our massivest achilles heel. Oh for a proper driving athletic CB.

Manning is too meandering to rely upon, Burns untried but worth a punt in Naughts' absence - we cannot possibly risk Cabango as our CCB.

I left out Cabango for a reason, more than a few times every game he likes to give out a hospital pass. I bet Fisher wasn't happy to get suck a pass with less than two minutes on the clock into his debut.

I’d go sh1t or bust with Piroe and Obafemi up top.

Paterson can take a hop even if he feels the club or RM let him down. The best way to do the talking is on the pitch and his petulance has dropped us down the league. Such a shame because his presence over last 5 games may have made a bid difference to our league position.
