Otis Redding and most of his band were killed in an aeroplane crash.
(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay was released posthumously on Stax Records' Volt label in 1968 becoming the first posthumous single to be #1 on the charts in the US.

And a sad coincidence that Redding's co-writer, producer and of course brilliant backing musician Steve Cropper recently died
