What's people's thoughts on Russell's message to the owners of the club in yesterday's post match interview?

Is he right to ask for more money or are the owners right to keep hold of the purse strings tight?

Got no problem with him asking and using the media to coax them. It's a common tactic and it was done politely.

Also got no issues if the owners don't give him what they want if the money isn't available.

We need to be run on a strictly self sustainable basis. I'm a bit concerned about our current direction of travel. Managers always want more money, as it's not theirs and they don't care if it's wasted as they'd be gone in an instant for...more money. They also then have an excuse if they don't get it. Most clubs' fans always want 'splash the cash' like little spoilt children at Christmas. Or the ridiculous 'speculate to accumulate', otherwise known as risking the club's future. But that means everyone can side against 'the yanks' for taking all the money, when in fact there is none, and no evidence of any such thing ever having happened. I'm not their greatest fan, but I hope they continue to run the club as sensibly as they seem to have, since Jenkins rode his ego out of town.

So if we don't have the internally generated funds to spend then, no, Martin should STFU and actually try and make the best of what he already has.

Cooper asked the same question about the same time last year. Got a couple of MLS players…I won’t be holding my breath

Yes, well we do appear to be on the precipice now.

I don't want the club being loaned money and being lumbered with debt, but can accept that it may have been required to keep the lights on, keep jobs following Covid and do things like the pitch re-lay.

However, we do now possibly appear to be using the loaned money to buy players without selling first. Which is gambling with the club's future in my opinion.

If i was Winter/Owners i'd be asking why he's letting fairly decent players leave.Fulton,Bidwell,Whittaker who looked one of our better players during pre season and backed it up in the Cup but can't get near a Championship game.

Players aren't getting a fair crack before he wants them gone.We shouldn't be going crazy this month with transfers,It's always a bad time to do deals keep what you have got add one or two,Do all the major stuff in the summer.I feel like he's running before he can walk he's trying to force us by leaving us short.

yep and that same MLS player (Morris) likely would have been the catalyst to get us promote barring that freak injury.

Your cosntant owner bashing is incredible tedious. We were one of the highest spenders in the league in the summer ffs.

But with the injury history and lack of any pre-season Morris (and Arriola) had it was hardly surprising that he got injured again, being parachuted into a hectic championship schedule even though Cooper was doing his best to limit his minutes.

It was a cheap punt that failed.

We needed to be one of the highest spenders in the summer having lost a golden gloves keeper, arguably the best central defender in the Championship last season and 72% of our league goals last season.
The relatively high spend in the summer is a red herring. We took the highest earners off the payroll and decimated the spine of the team.

He also purchased Whittaker for 700K, he also had Hourihane on loan who cost the club nearly 1M.

I am sorry not to be more grateful to an ownership who offered up an injury prone American from the MLS in response to the manager’s plea for a goalscorer to help us to promotion…

Watched his post match interview and he did seem subdued in the opening minutes. Maybe nothing and down to missing out on a signing

For comparison, we were 5th in the Championship at the end of the January transfer window in the 09/10 season under Sousa. We'd lost Bodde for the season and expensive summer signing Craig Beattie wasn't cutting the mustard. Our January business was making Cotterill's loan permanent for a fair wedge and signing Kuqi on a free.

Kind of makes a window of Hamer, Whittaker, Freeman, Hourihane, Morris and Arriola look generous in comparison.
