Petty – Not All Bad?

Most of the opinions formed on Mr Petty from what we have read on the internet are not good. But maybe it’s not all doom and gloom. We were contacted by someone from Brisbane this morning who has been talking to people from the Brisbane Lions and he suggests that maybe Tony Petty is a good thing after all.

It’s not fair for us to certainly say he’s bad and I don’t think anyone is doing so. We don’t know the man, just what we’ve read and from that most people will form an opinion – it’s human nature to do so. However, for the sake of balance let’s have a look at what we have been told today.

Tony Petty is very keen from what we have told in taking on the majority shareholding at Swansea as well as forming a club association between us and the Brisbane Lions soccer team.

Brisbane itself is a one team National League (NSL) city and that team at the moment is the strikers. The Lions play in a local league (compared maybe to the second division here). They are the richer of the two clubs and seem the more ambitious. They want to play in the NSL and have plans to update their stadium, team and many other aspects to realise this dream.

Our source tells us that we are bound to get negative feedback regards Petty from Strikers supporters. His view is that he rescued the Strikers but some of the ‘powerbrokers’ in the Australian game objected to an ‘outsider’ taking majority control of the club. We are told that Petty courted some good ideas when he was at the club – some good and some bad – but there is hope for us in that he tried. I don’t think anyone of us would expect 100% success but if he wants to try then who can argue?

At the moment, we don’t know his full motives for taking over at Swansea City – maybe we will learn some more today. I certainly would like to get the opportunity to speak to him and ask him a few questions to hopefully give a few answers.

It’s too early too judge this man at the moment, all we can do is take opinions on his past history and see what he brings.
