The Statement

As long standing fans, we are greatly concerned at the detrimental effect the involvement of Tony Petty, John Shuttleworth and Mike Lewis are having on our club.

Petty and Shuttleworth’s involvement in so many past companies that have gone out of business is extremely disturbing and we fear for the very survival of the club if the present regime remains in power.

Petty apparantely bought the club from Lewis for ร‚ยฃ1 and since then by his own admission has not put a penny of his own money into the club. In the recent court case, he stated to the judge that he had pledges of over ร‚ยฃ1 million ready to plough into Swansea City, again not 1p has been forthcoming.

We hold Mike Lewis equally responsible as Tony Petty for the mismanagement we have witnessed over the past few months. We also question Lewis’ continued involvement with the club. Petty at the outset has said that Lewis was being kept around as an adviser on the Morfa project. More recently, however it appears that Lewis is more involved with the day to day running and decision making at the club. Has he got a new role? What is his ‘true’ involvement with the club? Or is he still the actual owner of the club? It appears that his only purpose is to try and broker deals to sell off the assets (players) of the club. He is not a registered football agent and we are aware that the FA of Wales, English FA and the PFA are paying very close attention to this fact.

We do not trust or believe one word that comes out of the mouths of the present owners. We believe the only interest that Petty and Lewis have in the club is how much money they can personally earn for themselves at the club’s expense.

We ask the people of Swansea, the council and businesses of the surrounding area to wake up and realise that we are witnessing the possible extinction of the city’s football club. We call on all local businesses to have no dealings with the present owners – i.e. as sponsors and/or suppliers.

We charge Tony Petty to do the honourable thing and dispense of his 99% share issue to the true supporters of our city’s football club (he knows who and how to contact them) with Lewis having no further involvement in any role at the club.

Tony Petty and Mike Lewis will never be trusted or believed by the people of the area. They are nothing more than parasites.

We realise that media sources have to abide by certain rules and regulations, that is the reason that we felt compelled to release our own literature, so that the public as a whole had a chance to find out first hand about what type of people presently are in charge at Swansea City Football Club.

North Bank Alliance

The current owners were given until 6pm on Tuesday 18 December 2001 to relinquish control of the club. As they did not do so we are now releasing the enclosed statement and literature to various media sources, Council Leaders, various Football Associations and the general public of Swansea and the surrounding area.

We cannot print the literature here but a copy of what is contained can be found on the NBA site here
