McDermott said after the game “It’s very, very disappointing. It was a game we never deserved to lose, in fact I felt we should have won it – we had opportunities to win it and we couldn’t take them,
“The goal they scored was a disappointing one from our point of view – they got someone in round the back, but the ball has ricocheted straight to one of their players when it could have gone anywhere.
“We were chasing the game at the end and they could have scored another one, but over the ninety minutes the clear cut chances came our way.
“In football the first goal is really, really important and today Swansea managed to get it. We weren’t ruthless enough when chances came our way and that cost us.
“I can’t fault the players’ effort or commitment. I think the fans appreicated their efforts, they stayed to clap them off at the end and they tried to pull us over the line.
“We had opportunities at 0-0 and after they’d scored and we were denied a stonewall penalty for handball in the box, I’ve just seen the replay.
“What we asked the players to do, they did. We worked Swansea hard and they are a frustrating team to play against. But we just couldn’t get that goal.
“The fixture list is ridiculous. I’ve never seen anything like it. But we have to live with it – we have strong players.
“To be honest, we want to get out there and play again straight away. But now we need to recover and prepare for a difficult game in two days’ time.
“This is a great league – you can’t call any result in this division. But I feel if we keep performing the way we have been, we are a match for anyone.
“Swansea are second in the table now and we came here and deserved a result. So we don’t fear anybody.”
