Chairman Denies Laudrup Discussions

Rumours on Sunday emerged about a meeting on Sunday following Saturday’s defeat at West Ham and press articles were quick to jump on the rumours with the Evening Post saying that the manager’s job was ‘safe for now’ whilst the Daily Mail was keen to suggest there was a split in the boardroom with some wanting Laudrup out immediately while others wanted to wait for now.

However, speaking to the BBC yesterday Chairman Huw Jenkins denied the rumours of a meeting and said that a few did meet on Sunday.”I haven’t heard anything in reference to Michael and neither have we met, or discussed, or done anything about Michael,”he said.

“A couple of us did actually meet up on Sunday morning to have a cup of coffee like we normally do. That’s as simple as it was.

“That’s where the first rumour came from.

“It’s difficult for me to say anything because there isn’t anything to discuss.”

Interestingly, the Western Mail this morning reports that Laudrup will return to Swansea today and head straight to ‘crunch’ talks with the Chairman but he was yesterday just looking forward to the weekend clash with Cardiff at the Liberty “The bigger picture as always is winning a Premier League match and it so happens this week we are playing Cardiff,”

“Winning the match I can assure you is the most important thing for both teams.”

After the weekend defeat the Swans lie 12th in the table just two points ahead of the relegation zone after a run of form that has seen them win just once in ten games in the league although progress has been made to the last 16 of the FA Cup.

Jenkins’ comments are the first actual quotes over the speculation from either party and there is little doubt that there will be more said before the week is out as the team focus on what is probably the most important South Wales derby ever.
