It has certainly been an interesting few days at the Liberty with press reports and rumours that Laudrup walked after Saturday’s defeat at West Ham and stories that there was a rift in the boardroom with some wanting him gone and some wanting him to stay.
Yesterday. Chairman Huw Jenkins said that the manager’s future was not under discussion but clearly today that all changed ahead of the announcement this evening that the manager had departed just four days ahead of the South Wales derby.
รขโฌลIt is a decision we have taken reluctantly,รขโฌโขรขโฌโข confirmed Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins. รขโฌลBut itรขโฌโขs a decision made in the best interests of Swansea City Football Club and our supporters.
รขโฌลIt is the first time in nearly 10 years that the club has parted with a manager in this way, but we had to remove the constant uncertainty surrounding the club and Michaelรขโฌโขs long-term future with us.
รขโฌลI had a meeting with Michael today in a final attempt to support him and establish a way to improve the work of the backroom team to secure the results we need over the final 14 Premier League games. ”
And the club moved swiftly to appoint Garry Monk as head coach for the foreseeable future after ten years at the club where he has played in all four divisions with the Swans.
I’m not sure that we will ever know the full story as to why the club reached this division and there is little doubt that the timing could be better than it is however the decision has been taken and it is out of our hands that it has happened so it leaves us with the only thing we can do and that is to get behind Garry and the team starting on Saturday at the Liberty.
