Grimes linked with Watford move

Swansea captain Matt Grimes is being linked with a move to fellow Championship club Watford with some rumours suggesting that the deal is just about done and ready to be confirmed.

A rumour on the forum last night suggested this to be true and backs up reports that we were hearing from around Watford itself that the Hornets have identified Grimes as a player they want to secure as they bid to achieve a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Grimes was an ever present for the Swans last season as we reached the play off semi finals and it has become clear during his tenure that Steve Cooper sees his side built around his captain who played every single minute in that ever present run.

Steve Cooper suggested after the Swans win over Forest Green yesterday that departures could be expected from the Liberty although it was more widely expected to be the likes of Joe Rodon and Andre Ayew who were likely to be on their way as the Swans look to cut costs and balance the books ahead of the new season.

I think there will be players leaving in the transfer window.ย

Who and when I’m not too sure but there are some things rolling along. When things are a bit more concrete we’ll let you know.

“I don’t see anything happening before the Newport game though – Steve Cooper

Losing someone like Grimes would definitely be a blow to Cooper especially as it would take away someone at the heart of his midfield as well as his captain which is a tough blow to take.ย  Of course these are just rumours at this point in time but rumours coming from very different places and certainly not connected to each other.

It has to be added here that a move to Watford maybe a strange one for Grimes who knows he is pretty much guaranteed first team football here in Swansea which may not be the case at Watford.ย  That said, money will be bigger at a club just relegated from the Premier League and looking to make an immediate return.

Let’s see how – or even if – this pans out.
