Welcome to Swansea Joel Piroe – Hello recycle bin for a certain Tweet

The Swans yesterday confirmed the signing of Joel Piroe from PSV Eindhoven yesterday on a three year deal becoming the second signing of the summer behind Kyle Joseph from Wigan.

The news – first reported in the Netherlands a couple of weeks back – was confirmed by the Swans yesterday and subject to international clearance.

The Holland Under-20 internationalย joined PSVโ€™s academy from Feyenoord in 2014 and has gained regular experience in the Eredivisie over the last two campaigns.

He spent the 2019-20 season on loan with Sparta Rotterdam, scoring two goals in 18 appearances; having netted 11 goals in 29 appearances for Jong PSV in the Eerste Division the previous campaign.

Piroe made 12 first-team appearances for PSV last term, scoring three goals, including a brace in a Europa League win over Omonia Nicosia.

The news prompted a rapid deletion of a Tweet from former Swans director John Van Zweden who had branded Piroe “Worse than Aiden Newhouse” with a strong of expletives on first hearing the news that we were interested in the player.ย  PSV of course not being widely likely by those fans of Den Haag.ย  ย The deletion of the Tweet may have been at the request of the club but the recycle bin was probably the best place for it as Piroe does seem to be the kind of player who will enhance the squad which is much needed at the moment.ย  (The Tweet was reproduced on our forums last night here)

So from us, it’s a welcome to Swansea Joel and may your stay be a long and prosperous one.
