Swans close in on Buchanan signing – two more ready to follow

The Swans look set to capture former Derby County left back Lee Buchanan as Michael Duff continues to build his squad ahead of the new season.

Buchanan, who has spent the last twelve months at Werder Bremen, seems set to sign on to join other new permanent additions to the Swansea City squad in Josh Ginnelly, Josh Key and Jerry Yates all of whom have signed in recent weeks in SA1.

A fourth signing and we are only at the mid July stage shows the impact of the new regime inside the Swansea.com stadium and certainly highlights the belief that those who have arrived at the club in the last few months are determined to make their presence felt as they build the team that – as per last weekend – we can be proud of.

Buchanan played 70 times for Derby before a legal loophole allowed him out of his contract following the sale of the club.ย  Derby had to ask for a FIFA tribunal in order to receive a fee as the loophole would normally not allow this to happen.ย  ย It was eventually agreed that they would receive ‘full training compensation’ which was understood to be a six-figure fee.

The move of Buchanan to South West Wales is not the only move we can expect in the coming weeks with expectations high that he will be joined by both Carl Rushworth and, as we revealed on Monday, Harrison Ashby both on loan deals.ย  Both players are expected to be with us before the season starts on August 5th and both are expected to receive regular first team football as part of the deals that bring them here.ย  ย Ashby featured – and scored – for Newcastle last night in their latest friendly against Rangers.

Outside of that there was a further link yesterday that appeared in the North East with Jamal Lewis also linked with a move to Swansea (along with Watford and an ‘unnamed Saudi club’) but it has been suggested to us that whilst the Swans did have some level of interest a move for Lewis appears “unlikely”.

Departures are also expected from the Swansea.com stadium in this window with links with Joel Piroe’s departure remaining plentiful but nothing yet formally agreed for him to leave the club.ย  ย The departure of Morgan Whittaker this week was expected and there could well be at least one more departure during this window but, again, nothing has been officially confirmed as yet – watch this space.

Plenty of transfer activity certainly linked up at Swansea with plenty of announcements to keep the social media and photographs with shirts to come and all adds to our summer of change that we have talked about since the end of last season.

And a very different Swansea City look starting to take shape ahead of the new season.
