Williams expecting new additions and waits on Bolaise decision

Luke Williams may be focused on the FA Cup tie at Bournemouth this evening but he still took some time out yesterday afternoon to address the latest questions on the January transfer which has now just a week to run until its closure.

Williams was clear in his statement that there is much work being done to ensure that the squad comes out of the window stronger than they went into it and also let slip that there could be some youngsters leaving over the next week to ensure that they get some game time as part of their development.

The Swans are yet to confirm a signing in the window which closes next Thursday at 11pm but both Williams and Andy Coleman have been clear in their statements that work is being done and that they are determined to bring in the right players that the Swans need and not just any old players to add numbers to the squad.

As Williams met with the media yesterday afternoon to talk about the FA Cup tie at Bournemouth, he was asked questions on the window and respondedย โ€œI think itโ€™s probably fair to say that the whole market is moving slowly. Iโ€™ve seen some impressive stuff from Andy Coleman, heโ€™s not got his feet up Iโ€™ll put it that way.

โ€œI think if you have a previous relationship with that player then these deals get done quickly because the player will say โ€˜I want to play with that personโ€™. But if a player is moving to a club and he has options and doesnโ€™t know any of the clubs or people at the clubs and just making this big leap of faith, I think they try to weigh up everything and then we have to do our best to be the most attractive proposition at the end of it all.

โ€œIt looks like itโ€™s going to be a late flurry, so letโ€™s see what happens. What I would say is even if itโ€™s not what everyone was hoping for, it wonโ€™t be for the want of trying.

“what I think would be the second-worst thing is to bring people in that we donโ€™t think are top-drawer, and then say โ€˜oh but weโ€™ve done somethingโ€™.

โ€œI think that would also be a problem, weโ€™d just be kicking the can down the road so we have to get the right ones and make them feel like this is the place for them to come and play.โ€

Williams spoke after the weekend defeat to Southampton about discussions to confirm a longer term deal for Yannick Bolaise and whilst he remains hopeful that he secures his signature he was candid as to exactly what is causing the delay adding that there was more to it than just the player being uncertain โ€œItโ€™s something along those lines,” the boss said.ย  “Itโ€™s a little bit more complicated but if I talk more itโ€™s probably unfair.

Heโ€™s not a kid, heโ€™s an experienced guy, he has other options in his life. The first thing you have to know is that heโ€™s training really well, heโ€™s so focused and heโ€™s really great in the building so this isnโ€™t a commitment thing, heโ€™s in a different stage of his career where these guys have to think about things more deeply. Weโ€™re trying (to get him to stay).

โ€œOf course weโ€™ve all seen a lot of Yannick over the years because heโ€™s been a top player, so Iโ€™ve got a good impression of him anyway.”

I'm still very torn on Bolaise. For a few minutes here and there he has looked like he can do us a job but at 34 and at the cost that he will no doubt command surely it is nowhere near our player model?

I'd rather give Wilson or Smith a chance.

Bolasie is just a waste of time. What's the point? We need to start building for next year now rather than throw money at a hasn't quite been's pension.

Even if he scores or lays on a goal or two, it's not a good investment (unless he wins us the cupppp. No, can't see it).

There have been some moments of real genius from Bolasie but they have been just that, moments. His cause has not been helped by the lack of a coherent game plan or the long ball game played under Duff admittedly, could we see more from him with a side more in tune with his strengths?

Maybe, but as said he would surely demand more than we would offer especially for a short term deal until the end of the season.

Its weird because the moment he has come on to the pitch in some of our games the team seems to be lifted and plays better. He has looked stupid a few times and I wonder if that is just the ability and timing of those around him or has he just lost that edge.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
