Swans closing in on first signing – winger due in South Wales for medical

The Swans look like they are moving in on a rare January event for the club as they look set to complete a first signing with Brazilian winger Ronald due in South West Wales this weekend to undertake a medical for the club.

The BBC are reporting that the deal could be a seven figure fee for the 22-year old who currently plays for Portuguese top-flight side Estrela da Amadora.

He has been on loan at Estrela for the last 18 months from Brazilian club Gremio Anapolis.

The Swans are said to have agreed a fee with Gremio and personal terms have also been finalised with the player with just the formalities of a medical seemingly now standing between us and the signature of the player.

The BBC report reads “Ronald helped Estrela win promotion from the Portuguese second tier in 2022-23 and has played 17 times in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring one goal.

“Swansea’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Paul Watson, have identified Ronald as a player capable of making an impact in the Championship.”

Assuming we get this deal over the line it will be our first January signing for almost two years given we failed to make a single signing this time last year and, given most of us will know nothing about this player, we can only hope that the extensive research and data analysis that we are led to believe we undertake is accurate.

Looks like he's a left winger which makes the decision to get rid of Ogbeta more understandable

Judging by the 2 vids Iโ€™ve just watched, heโ€™s not shy of getting stuck in either.

Looks like he's got a decent right and left foot... scored a couple of long rangers with both feet

Seems to have good pace, not as fast as Montero was but arguably you could say that Montero was TOO quick, his legs couldn't cope with the demands of his high speed stop start dribbling style.

Ronald seems to have good decision making and delivery, happy to graft for the team and can shoot with his right foot and left. If this comes off it looks like a very good signing to be honest.

My little one has just searched for him on FIFA and heโ€™s โ€œThe lowest rated of all the Ronsโ€.
Wonder if thatโ€™s how our data identified him.
