Swans confirm Ronald capture

Swansea City have confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger Ronald who has described the move as a “dream” following putting pen to paper on his permanent move.

The move, secured on a three year contract with an option for a further 12 months is subject to international clearance and a visa and he will wear the number 35 shirt for the Swans, once famously donned by Walter Boyd.

โ€œI hope to bring moments of happiness, and help my teammates in all aspects of the game,โ€ he told the club’s official You Tube channel.

โ€œI am a winger, I am very fast and good in one-to-one situations. I like to score goals and make assists. I like to attack high up the field, and I hope I can create difficulties for my opponents.

โ€œI am very happy that the club has shown faith in me. I am just focusing on being happy here and trying to help the team.

โ€œI feel ready. I grew up as a man and as a player during my 18 months in Portugal, so I am more mature and prepared for the higher level that the Championship is.

โ€œI hope I can adapt as quickly as possible so I can help the team soon.โ€

As has been said on these pages before none of us know much about this player but we can only hope that the scouting and recruitment is strong here and that the player repays the clear faith that we have shown in him.

Luke Williams

โ€œItโ€™s a big step in his career and it tells you everything about him that he wants to be here, to move his life here and be part of the journey,โ€ said Williams.

โ€œHe wants to grow with the club, so for Ronald to make this step is a clear marker that he is hungry, ambitious and brave.

โ€œIt shows his football comes first in his life and that, for me, is something that is very important.

โ€œWe have been looking for players who can bring that explosive power at the top end of the pitch, and hopefully we can help Ronald settle in and adapt so he can show us the qualities he has.

โ€œWe need to look after him as a club, and I know the fans will as well, because they are such a welcoming group of people, as I have experienced myself.

โ€œHe is in a brilliant place, there are so many things to help him settle into this great city.โ€

My guess is that he'll be used as an agent of chaos type of player, rather than a hatful of assists and goals player. Runs in behind, committing defenders, creating space/opportunities that way.

No defensive credentials so no wing back. Lets hope he lives up to the hype

I'm a little unsure where the hype has come from mind. I really hope this works out but how many times have we watched him. The need in the squad for a pacy winger is clear but at ยฃ1m+ this has to be a signing that works. Not one of the mad things that we did in the summer

It's a f*cking bonkers signing, really. Like, where the hell did this come from? How much do we know about him? His stats are very average at best - then again, so were Piroe's before he came here, so let's roll the dice and see what happens.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
