Williams happy with both sides of the Swans performance

There would undoubtedly have been a sigh of relief coming from Luke Williams at some point post the final whistle yesterday as he finally saw his Swans side secure a first maximum league return at home for him following his appointment in January.

First half goals from Joe Allen and Jamie Paterson set the Swans on the way to victory but the second half saw the side very much on the backfoot as they held on to secure consecutive league wins and take their points tally above the forty point mark with eleven games to go.

The win was made all the more important by results below the Swans which meant we end – after back to back wins – still only four points ahead of the bottom three but knowing that we are capable of holding onto leads which we have achieved on consecutive Saturdays.

It was little wonder then that the boss was a happy man as he addressed the media after the gameย โ€œI am really pleased, particularly with the first-half performance,โ€ he said.

โ€œWe were on the front foot a lot, and then in the second half we had to defend more.

โ€œOf course, the opposition have nothing to lose and they threw everything forward at us and made it very tough.

โ€œI am happy with the two sides of the team. Being on the front foot and our attacking play in the first half, and how mentally tough we were in defending.

โ€œWe made a fast start, we got the crowd in the game and thatโ€™s the connection we need to make between the players on the pitch and the fans in the stand.

โ€œWe have to create that so we help one another. We have to help them invest in us, and then they give us energy with the noise and the excitement.โ€
