Williams: “We had nothing” – Luke’s assessment of unacceptable performance

You can call it refreshing honesty or you can call it stating the obvious but Luke Williams comments after the 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough summed up the Swans afternoon in a nutshell after he declared the performance ‘unacceptable’

A whole load of descriptions could easily of been used, some of them probably unprintable as the Swans delivered one of the worst performances in a season full of dreadful performances and should leave the team as a minimum totally ashamed as they make their way back to South Wales.

Any repeat of that kind of performance in the upcoming two games and the dot com could start becoming a more hostile environment than any of the players have experienced during the easy life they seem to have created for themselves in Swansea.

After all the noise of the week leading up to the game of improvements and progress the Swans delivered a display that was devoid of anything that we hear and it is now time for each of the players to keep their mouths shut and deliver on the pitch.ย  ย There is no other way to go forward from here.ย  ย We have heard all the positive noises during the course of the season but for each of them who speaks the performance we see is as far from the noise as is possible.ย  ย Bar of course Cardiff which did enough to paper over the cracks for a few weeks but we cannot survive on just despatching Cardiff in derbies.ย  ย We need to be better than that.ย  ย Much better.

โ€œThe way we played today was unacceptable,โ€ said Williams.

โ€œIt was completely unacceptable, it was lacking in energy and conviction. We concede two ridiculous goals, we showed nowhere near enough for our supporters to watch that and be happy with what they saw.

โ€œWe had nothing. We got players into unmarked positions in the box, the number of times we get close and overhit a cross or make a bad touch. Itโ€™s just sloppiness, there is not enough focus or concentration.

โ€œWe did not turn up. Think of the supporters who have travelled up here, excited to come and see their side in this stadium and we produce that. Itโ€™s absolutely brutal.

โ€œThis is a big football club, we are one division away from the Premier League. We cannot play football like that again, what would be the point of that?

โ€œWe have to be better than that in the games ahead, it better be blood and thunder.โ€

The Swans now have Stoke (Wednesday night) and Rotherham (Saturday) to “look forward to” but given the nature of the last three performances there are no positives to take into those games and it simply has to be a performance and two wins.

That turns unacceptable into acceptable.ย  For now.

It's quite refreshing tbf Jax. I'm starting to feel for the guy. Clearly has expectations and standards that these wet wipes have no desire to deliver

The manager will always carry the can for the results eventually

But each of those players today should be docked their wages and prosecuted under the trades description act

Some of the free kicks, corners and crosses had a feel of a seven year olds game about it they were so bad. And I feel harsh talking about football at that age in such a disparaging way

Looked like he was going to fill someone in when the litter blew across the pitch half way through the interview.

Fair play. He is absolutely fuming. Letโ€™s hope that actually filters down to the players.

Canโ€™t disagree. Generous read; heโ€™s giving them their last opportunities to prove themselves. (Although probably shouldnโ€™t be doing that when we still need points to survive)

He will read them the riot act and then probably pick the same team and tell them go and show the supporters what you can really do and we end up losing 2-0

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
