Four is the magic number as Luke eyes additions

Four more for Luke

With under 48 hours to the big kick off in the Championship, Swans boss Luke Williams believes his squad still needs four “really good players” for the gruelling 46 game season ahead.

The Swans boss is known to be eyeing at least one winger, a number ten, a centre half and potentially a striker before the close of the transfer window.

โ€œI think probably realistically we are four really good players away from the ideal numbers,โ€ he said in today’s pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough.

โ€œ[That is] players who will make us better rather than just filling the squad – thatโ€™s no good to us.

โ€œIโ€™d be concerned if itโ€™s the same squad in two monthsโ€™ time because I think with the accumulation of games, itโ€™s going to be difficult for the squad as it stands to withstand that.

โ€œBut thatโ€™s not going to happen, so I am not concerned. I am more concerned that we bring the right people in. If that takes a little bit longer, so be it.”

Many players have been linked with moves to Swansea and the club have also missed out on a number – one of those seemingly Tyrese Campbell who is reportedly undergoing a medical at Sheffield United today ahead of penning a four year deal.

United are the thorn in Swansea’s side this summer as they also eye our former loanee Carl Rushworth. Williams was desperate to seal his return this summer prior to the signing of Lawrence Vigouroux and now admits that a deal for the Brighton man is practically “dead in the water.”

There remains interest in Noel Milleskog who has been strongly linked with a move to SA1 over the best seven days – an interest that Williams himself confirmed this afternoon.

“Again. There’s nothing I can really tell you about on that one at the moment,” he added. “He’s a player that all the staff have looked at because he was brought to us by the recruitment team.

“He’s another very talented player. But there’s nothing more on that at the moment.”

Ruben Providence is a player that is expected to put pen to paper over the coming days after impressing in the 3-0 win vs Rio Ave as a substitute, bringing pace and creativity to Swansea’s wide options.

Williams says that the fee involved in a move for Providence is not a “huge difficulty for us” suggesting that all parties are onboard with a move. Unless of course Oxford United come in with a late offer after the player spent a week at the Kassam Stadium on trial earlier this summer.

โ€œWe are closer [to making a decision],” the Swans boss said.

“We have to catch up with Ruben and the sporting director about where we are with his situation.

โ€œHe is not a free agent,

“We would have to pay a fee but there is an understanding of what that would be already and we donโ€™t think that would be a huge difficulty for us, potentially.โ€

So to summarise – Providence? Most likely. Milleskog? Maybe. Rushworth? Unlikely. Campbell? No chance. Paterson return? Not likely.

All caught up?
