As has become predictable in the transfer windows of the recent past the Swans are doing their business at the very end of the window which will always beg the question of how high up our list of targets our new arrivals are set to be.
As reported on Friday, a deal for Manchester City midfielder appears to become closer although it seems to be an initial loan although it has been suggested that the Swans are working on a permanent deal for the summer which is dependent on us retaining our Championship status.
Wright, who has been a part of the first-team set up at the Ethiad Stadium for twelve months has found first team opportunities very limited as they went in search of a fifth consecutive Premier League crown and he has been the subject of much praise from those around the squad with Manuel Akanji saying at the back end of last season “A lot of great young players training with us. Jacob Wright has been doing a really good job.
“So many coming up, not scared, just trying to do their thing. That’s what I like; show us what you can do. They give it all, the right mentality.”
Wright did have the chance to leave Man City in the summer but revealed at the end of the last window that Pep Guardiola and his staff wanted him to stay and continue his development within the squad. As he said at the time “There’s no temptation any longer when you get information they want you to stay and be around because they see you as someone that could be around it. The temptation went out the window as soon as I heard that.”
However, with the lack of first team football this season it seems that things may have changed for Wright and whilst this may start as a loan move the suggestion that it could turn into something permanent is a good one although judgement on the player will always be reserved for a time where he has played a few games in a white shirt.
Not coming to the Swans this window is another target in Southampton winger Samuel Amo-Ameyaw. The Athletic now report that the 18-year-old is close to a permanent move to Strasbourg.
When you read into it further a loa deal with an obligation to buy for a package worth €7million in the summer you know that was the Swans out of the running at that stage as those kind of figures are out of our range, particularly if the value for Wright is to be believed at around £4m for a permanent move.
The loan signing of Wright is one of what is expected to potentially be three more new signings before the window closes.
