Ashley Williams believes that the Swans first away win of the season could be the first of many

THe Swans finally broke their away day duck with a comprehensive 2-0 win at Villa Park on Monday and Williams thinks that could be the first of several away wins this season

He told the Western Mail “We’ve proved we can do it so there can be no excuses now

“If we can do it at Villa, we can do it anywhere.

“We proved to ourselves we can win at a place like Villa Park and also dominate the game.

“It wasn’t a smash and grab, I don’t think many people can say we didn’t deserve it.

“We started fast and finished strong so it was close to perfect.

“I don’t think we’ve thought about it too much. Obviously the media and the gaffer kept barking on about it.

“Normally you’re quite happy if you’re winning at home. As long as you’re looking after your home form, which we’re doing, you get what you can on the road. But we probably needed a win so to come to a place like this and get it is fantastic.

“I looked up at the clock when it said 85 minutes and I thought this is the sort of time it started going wrong.

“But it wasn’t the same feeling – we weren’t vulnerable. We were in control.

“They were putting the pressure on like we knew they would, but we were knocking it back. After the Wolves game we said it wasn’t so much of a bad thing because we learned so much that day.

“Monday was one of those days where you could see lessons were learned.

“We defended superbly as a team. Apart from the last chance in the last minute they didn’t create that much. We’ve defended well all season apart from in the odd game and we have to keep that going.

“Everyone has contributed over the last week,” added Williams. “People like (Andrea) Orlandi, (Stephen) Dobbie and Luke Moore have come in and done brilliantly.

“I don’t think people realise how difficult it is to come in when you haven’t been playing because you’re not as fit as the rest of the team.

“It’s been a real squad effort and we want to keep it going.”
