Ashley Williams believes that the Swans first away win of the season could be the first of many
THe Swans finally broke their away day duck with a comprehensive 2-0 win at Villa Park on Monday and Williams thinks that could be the first of several away wins this season
He told the Western Mailย โWeโve proved we can do it so there can be no excuses now
โIf we can do it at Villa, we can do it anywhere.
โWe proved to ourselves we can win at a place like Villa Park and also dominate the game.
โIt wasnโt a smash and grab, I donโt think many people can say we didnโt deserve it.
โWe started fast and finished strong so it was close to perfect.
โI donโt think weโve thought about it too much. Obviously the media and the gaffer kept barking on about it.
โNormally youโre quite happy if youโre winning at home. As long as youโre looking after your home form, which weโre doing, you get what you can on the road. But we probably needed a win so to come to a place like this and get it is fantastic.
โI looked up at the clock when it said 85 minutes and I thought this is the sort of time it started going wrong.
โBut it wasnโt the same feeling โ we werenโt vulnerable. We were in control.
โThey were putting the pressure on like we knew they would, but we were knocking it back. After the Wolves game we said it wasnโt so much of a bad thing because we learned so much that day.
โMonday was one of those days where you could see lessons were learned.
โWe defended superbly as a team. Apart from the last chance in the last minute they didnโt create that much. Weโve defended well all season apart from in the odd game and we have to keep that going.
โEveryone has contributed over the last week,โ added Williams. โPeople like (Andrea) Orlandi, (Stephen) Dobbie and Luke Moore have come in and done brilliantly.
โI donโt think people realise how difficult it is to come in when you havenโt been playing because youโre not as fit as the rest of the team.
โItโs been a real squad effort and we want to keep it going.โ
